I am not related to or a friend of either Brayden Dailey or Jack Rose. For that matter I don't really know Clarence Cummings III, Brock Heffner, Amari Jedkins or Ryan Wade either. My view on this isn't clouded by personal relationships. I do believe with a high degree of certainty that CC3 was coming back and that was known to everyone in the program weeks ago, prior to any tryout period beginning. I do believe with a high degree of certainty that Brayden and Jack recently found out that they would not be back and this was not exactly on their radar based on the work they had been doing. I really don't have a major problem with the coaching staff wanting to bring in their own roster of guys. I don't like that guys are just finding out recently that they should move on. I referenced it earlier and I will repeat it again. Wicks could spend two days with these guys in mid March and make his vision for their future in this program known. He would know who is good enough and who isn't it, this isn't his first rodeo. I highly doubt he was telling them they weren't good enough and he was going to bring in more guys and they stayed anyway to try and prove him wrong. If that is the case I actually appreciate their resolve. It appears Wicks kept them around until he had better guys committed or in the case of Dailey on the verge of committing. As it turns out Wicks appears to have been hoping to flush guys out and make it seem like it wasn't his choice. He could then get a fresh slate and not burn any bridges. When that didn't happen he had to do what he could have done weeks ago. I like juice but my favorite type isn't kool-aid. Thank you. Sorry if I am being more blunt in my language, but this is exactly what I believe happened / is happening. Like you, I don't have a problem with Wicks getting his own, but I think it's obvious some of these guys were strung along. And the "try-out" was never really an actual try-out.

Jack Rose was still posting GB stuff on his Instagram story even a few days ago before entering the portal. I doubt that would be the case if he knew he was on his way out.
The Donavan Short article that mentioned "the trial" period also mentioned that some guys had been told they would have a role next season - presumably CC and Heffner - while others would have to go through the trial. It's pretty obvious that Rose and Dailey went through the trial and didn't make the team. Whether that's because Sunny found better players or they genuinely were being evaluated and didn't make the cut, who knows.
There's a reason people crapped on Buzz Williams when he would "Buzzcut" guys at Marquette, and there's a reason you can find "Creaning" on Urban Dictionary (https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Creaning). It's part of the game yes but it's an ugly part of the game and its a bad look for the coach. At the end of the day its about wins and losses though and I get it. I just hope they can find a new home before the portal closes.
I say all this as someone who fully, 100% agrees the roster needed to be almost completely turned over and that Rose and Dailey would be better off elsewhere for everyone involved. The roster has been upgraded no doubt. It's just a bad look IMO when Reynolds announces his commitment (when GB has 0 scholarships available) and then Rose is in the portal like an hour later.

I agree with much of what you're saying but one clarification. "I just hope they can find a new home before the portal closes." Student/athletes looking for a new school have until the start of the semester in fall to find a place. Ever coach in the country, at every level is working to fill scholarships or helping players find a new spot. I'm wondering if Rose might look at a school that has baseball? He was a heck of a high school player. Dailey's outside shot and size will make him attractive. Having two sons in college the thing with changing schools is transfer credits and how that applies to getting the degree you want.

It sounds like we are not going to agree on this topic. My personal view is that whatever it takes to upgrade this roster I am good with. If it meant someone had to be "forced" out so we could get Noah Reynolds I am fine with it. This will not be a problem in future years, once there is talent on this team and sunny has his guys. The roster was so bad last year that something like this was bound to happen. Sunny can't just cut everyone and before a little assurance that he has guys coming in. I wish all the transfers the best but a lot of this had to be done so we could compete next year.

3-29 can’t be argued with. We haven’t been at program ground zero since the Dick Lien Era.
Now if Will Ryan took this team to a 29-3 record and just left GB to take a MVC, MAC, or A10 gig, and Sunny was doing a complete makeover of the roster like he is now, I would raise an eyebrow.
I would like to thank previous AD Charles Guthrie for bringing us to this point. But we only have one way to go now. Based on the roster composition as it stands right now, we can’t get any worse ;-)

Uwgb starts the nonconfrence schedule. Against Iowa state. Two other knowns are st. Thomas and uic and I’m going to guess they will play Wisconsin because they always do. So what your saying I maybe is you don’t like three players from last year? The three freshman coming in? And the transfer coming in correct? That’s what’s you mean maybe by it can’t get any worse? The roster anyway? Well Reynolds averaged 20ppg. Elijah Jones won a juco national championship. If you don’t like will eames he is senior he is gone after this year. So maybe as aaron Rodgers would of said relax.

More fuel to the fire with what the “returning” players are dealing with. Really wanted to se Brock take off with Sunny- though he was a good culture fit.

I thought Brock would stick around. He would have been a better fit for Coach’s Sunny’s system.

Cummings and Jedkins are the ones from last years team. I’m guessing zane short not be coming back. May 11 th is the transfer portal window closing. Let’s see if Cummings returns to the portal or Jedkins portals?

More fuel to the fire with what the “returning” players are dealing with. Really wanted to se Brock take off with Sunny- though he was a good culture fit. I absolutely agree that there was likely a sort of predetermination as to who Sunny wanted to keep, regardless whether they passed his "tests" or not. I do think that is poor practice and a bad thing to do to kids. So, out of principle I do not like this. In terms of practicality, did you watch Brock play last year? There was/is little chance that most of the crop of guys we had last year would "take off" under Sunny.

Brock wasn't consistent this past season but he definitely had some moments and potential. He scored in double digits about 1/3 of the time. Considering his injuries and the rotation fluctuating I think he showed enough to feel like he could be a future contributor. He needs experience and stability in his minutes.

Brock has the talent, he just needed coaching, mentoring and maturation. He has the ability to be a D1 contributor. Brock should have have a problem finding a landing spot.

Brock was not in the portal long. He’s committed to the University of Mary.

That argument that the transferring players would have trouble finding a landing spot doesn't seem to be holding true. The intensity of Wicks simply was not a good fit for most of the players on last season's team. In the end this seems like a win, win for everyone. The old players find a better fit and the new staff brings in players who are fully bought in to the program.
