Did that article tell you that coach prime to those guys what he was going to do the first time he met with the team? Did the article tell you that after the first spring practice he took away all the jerseys form the players, gave them jerseys without numbers and told all his players to earn their numbers. He was straight with them from the start. That story was about a position coach, not coach Prime. Overall the people here are not upset with what he is doing here. He sold out the spring game and CU sold out all the season tickets. After they hired him the AD said they didn't know how they were going to pay him. He is worth his weight in gold right now. In Cu's case they won one or two games, so it does not come as a surprise at what he is doing. Sunny did say the it should not take 4 cycles before you start winning. So he is telling you in a round about way. This should not come as a shock to anyone since this was a 3 win team. I would not be surprised if he turned over the entire roster. Can Sunny have that kind of impact on ticket sales? I don't know, But Colorado is expecting a sell out for every game. there is an article on Yahoo that talks about it better than the athletic did.

Back to the Nix and Coach Wicks putting a roster together. This interview deals with the general issue of building team culture and the pitfalls. The video is a couple of years old but captures Wicks general philosophy and that of most coaches. You can fast forward to 11:00 to about 13:45.

Regarding Dailey and Rose, I don't think it's hard to make a case that the best thing for them is to be somewhere else. We don't know exactly what conversations the new staff had with the holdovers. My suspicion is that there were some direct conversations about the need to upgrade the roster and the need to compete, but I don't know that. Regardless, if they stayed here, they would very likely be on the bench watching and not getting any minutes. They were both bit players on one of the worst D1 teams in the country. That's not a knock on their character or work ethic or anything else. It's just a statement of fact. I don't think it was in the best interests of either player for them to stay at GB. It's entirely possible for the staff to both have protected and upgraded the program, and done right by Dailey and Rose at the same time.
When the offseason started, I personally wanted Cummings, Meyer, and Tucker back. That's it. I could envision roles for another three or four in the right circumstances. Cummings is back, and Meyer and Tucker have both found landing spots with other D1 programs. The only other players who left to find landing spots so far are Davis and Short, and both went D2. I think those are good moves for both of them, and moves that Dailey, Rose, and at least most of the others in the portal should consider copying.
Last year's roster was not a D1 roster. Given the 3-29 record, I don't think that should be a controversial statement. Upgrading the roster can't be done without some difficult decisions on last year's guys. I hope they all find situations where they can develop and enjoy their college years.

They were asked to not come back by who coach wicks? It was what Donovan Short said in that article shortly after he met with Wicks: ‘I am going to put you through a trial, and if you get through this trial and I like you, I will keep you.' He was a smart man seeing through that bullshit. These other guys could be left hanging now.

There hundredes and hundreds of spots left. Any players from any situation left hanging will be because they weren't scholarship worthy. Since when did we start pushing entitlement? Shouldn't everyone have to earn there way?

These guys aren't left hanging. If they are good enough to play at this level they will have options.

But it was obvious that he kept them around until he had better options. It wasn’t a try out.

I’ve lived in Green Bay my entire life and am a GB fan. I’m just not falling for his schtick. Hope he can coach as well as he can self-promote.

Sunny's "schtick" is a cattle prod in the A^# of a morbid division one basketball program. In the past two months the coaching staff has put together a legitimate mid-major roster for the first time since Wardle's leftovers departed. The high energy "schtick" may not be your style but it has gotten the attention of some recruits that fans could only dream about getting on the team in past years. Results on the court, we'll see in November and December. I'm betting on high entertainment value -- on the court and on the sidelines. Time to look at the future and speculate on the next recruit to buy into to the show.

No need to keep them out of the portal until you find someone better.

Results on the court, we'll see in November and December. I'm betting on high entertainment value -- on the court and on the sidelines. Time to look at the future and speculate on the next recruit to buy into to the show. When we just had the worst season (and 3 out of the 5 worst seasons in UWGB history were from the Will Ryan era) in the history of UWGB basketball, as a head coach, IMO, you get to remake the roster any way you see fit. Tough conversations need to be had. Out of this past seasons roster, CC, Cade, Brock, Randy could have been contributors to next season. Then maybe Donovan and Amari based on athleticism and potential. As of now, we will see what CC, Amari, and Brock will bring so be they are the only ones left. We needed a major size, athleticism, and talent upgrade since the team the last 3 years looked like a mid-level MIAC team getting off the bus. This program also needed a major shot in the arm. We need someone who will make connections in the community and drum up support. If Sunny needs to don the Phoenix mascot costume and surprise kids at a local basketball tournament, then so be it. We had the milquetoast, single season wins tenure of Will Ryan; preceded by the somewhat offensively entertaining but skittish Linc Darner, preceded by BW who nearly got GB to the NCAAs but he was stand-offish with the media and community as was TK before him. The crowds at the Resch and the Kress for that matter have been shrinking to the point where I think GB should play the majority of their games at the Kress for the time being since we get crap dates from PMI anyway at the Resch. This program needed change in a big way. Dick Bennett is not coming through that door, as well as Tony (as he’s locked into UVA until he retires unless the program takes a nosedive). We have to look at other ways of doing things and if takes a high energy guy like Sunny to do it so be it. We’ve tried other ways and they have not worked since the late-90s. This program was also put in this position by previous ADs Charles Guthrie and MEG. They did not do the program any favors with their decision making especially when Guthrie fired Linc prematurely in the middle of COVID in May when the coaching carrousel already stopped and GB missed out on many better candidates which led us to the Will Ryan era. So I will give Josh Moon some grace in digging the athletics program out of the hole it was in. If it means getting out of the box candidates to potentially fill the HC role so be it; However I would have raised an eyebrow if he hired Doug Gottlieb and if he would have kept his radio gig.

Cummings entered the portal, worked out with the team, and made the team.
