From the article it sounds like Creighton and Bradley have an edge. It sure would be nice to add a 6'7" sharpshooter to the mix. Taphorn would be the first son of a basketball player to earn a scholarship for basketball but he would not be the first son of a player to be on the team. Wasn't the walk on Anderson from a few years ago the son of a player?

Germantown F Luke Fischer, who had a Phoenix offer but has been a longtime Indiana lean, made it official after being in house for Indiana's win over Ohio St yesterday. I saw Fischer on TV earlier this year, he's now up 6'10", and now has a very impressive skill set. Best of luck to him.
I'm surprised UW never showed more interest. It wouldn't surprise me if that decision haunts them in the future.

Green Bay has made an offer to 6'7" SF Alec Peters of Washington High in Illinois. Here's a recent Q & A with Peters before the Phoenix offered. Here's what Joe Henricksen wrote about Peters play at the Pekin Holiday Tournament (Pekin is the home of Nix target Nate Taphorn): Class of 2013 Stock Riser • Alec Peters, Washington The fact Peters has just five Division I offers at this point absolutely blows the Hoops Report's mind. Kudos to you UIC, Illinois State, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Albany and South Dakota State. The 6-7 junior, who is among the Hoops Report's top 20 prospects in the Class of 2013, averaged 24 points and 8 rebounds in four Tournament of Champions games over Thanksgiving.
Peters was soon diagnosed with a ruptured spleen and mononucleosis. He spent time in the hospital, lost weight, strength and conditioning while missing four games. He returned to help lead Washington to an upset win over the No. 1 team in Class 3A, Springfield Lanphier, and a Pekin Holiday Tournament title game appearance. In four games, fresh off battling illness and fighting weakness, Peters averaged 15 points, 6.5 rebounds and shot 8 of 18 from beyond the arc. Peters, who when healthy is a strong, crafty, high motor forward who can really shoot it, should (and will eventually) have a multitude of mid-major offers.

Here's an interesting article from Scott Venci about Cody Wichman. From the article: The scholarship offers already have started coming in for Pulaski basketball standout Cody Wichmann.
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. South Dakota. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. He's also made visits to schools such as Wisconsin and Northern Iowa. The 6-foot-5 junior guard likes all the schools, but there also is a certain one that makes his face light up when it's mentioned: The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. "Yeah," Wichmann said. "I told my mom this, I grew up here and I go to all the games. I'm really familiar with it. So, it's definitely a possibility, and I hope they keep talking with me." Wichmann said he has talked with UWGB coach Brian Wardle and assistant coaches Brian Barone and Jimmie Foster. They are aware of him, but he's not quite certain where he stands.Venci mentions Wichman is hitting 57% on 3s in league play, very impressive. I seen him play against Bay Port, he is much improved from when I saw him against De Pere at sectionals last year. He's now a full 6'5", with oustanding arm length. He has really improved his ball handling, and routinely brought the ball up against pressure. His shot is quicker, and he's now a force on the glass. His stats are skewed lower because Pulaski plays at a very slow pace. I think he fits well now as a skilled SF. If Wardle offers, I'd be happy to have him. Another possibility might be a 4 for 5 offer, with him redshirting in year 1, and then going on scolarship in 2014, when there will be a ton of openings.

Coach Wardle was at the FVL/Little Chute game tonight, presumably to check out LC's Turner Botz, a 6'6" 2013 forward who really shoots well. LC's also has a 2nd 2013 prospect, F Kenny Lowe. Lowe is a serious athlete, and has now sprouted to 6'7". It wouldn't surprise me if he also eventually ends up a D1 player.

Wardle attended the big De Pere-Pulaski clash last night, and offered Pulaski's Cody Wichman a 4 for 5 offer. The details are in the sidebar of this article.I hope Cody eventually accepts. Sure, he'll have to pay for his 1st year of school, but if you look at the travel costs him and his family will save on over his college career, it really cuts into that. I can't think of anything cooler for a local kid than to be part of a Green Bay team that goes to the Big Dance.

Rob Jeter and Duffy Conroy were also at the game last night.
What does everyone think of GB offering?

What does everyone think of GB offering? In Wardle we trust. He has been an awesome recruiter. The only thing they're missing is the one thing you can't recruit, experience. Wardle doesn't offer just anyone, so an offer to Wichman means this cat is a player.

My opinion is it would be a smart move on Cody's part to take GB's offer. One of my complaints with GB has been a lack of Red shirts except for Medical. The flip side is most players don't realize what's best for them and want to play now. It's hard to convince a kid that he could be a better player by practicing for a year and be ready to play right out of the gate. Ego is a big part of it, the player thinks he can dominate like HS and doesn't realize the talent level and different system they need to learn. I know Sykes is the exception, but look how many games it took him to gel and we were desperate for a point guard. He might have spent a lot of time on the bench. Sorry for the long post it's just been a pet peave of mine for a while. I hope Brian can convince Cody that he could be a better player by waiting just one year.

Not that it was very realistic to land him anyway, but Wisconsin has now offered Matt Thomas from Onalaska. He has a 'Nix offer as well as Marquette, Iowa St, Minnesota, and a host of others

Saw Matt play a couple weeks ago. Reminds me of a bigger Tony Bennett. Very quick release along with good jumping ability. Shoots from any where in the gym. Having also seen Koenig play I would give the nod to Thomas. Both are top players and UW would have a great combo if Thomas also commits.
Thomas is more of an 2 where I believe Koenig is a 1

What does everyone think of GB offering? Rob Demovsky answers your question in his column today titled "Getting Wichman is a must for UWGB"It stinks to no end that in a year where there is finally a quality local talent, Green Bay has only 1, or possibly 0 scholarships available. I could be wrong, but I don't think Wichman is legitimately interested in UWM. I've already said I'd like Wichman, but the 4 for 5 deal fits best, at least while Berlin's Toby Hegner is still on the board. Hegner has high major offers, but has always had an interest in GB, and is still interested enough to attend a game during the last home stand. He missed the early part of the season with mono, it's possible the high majors relaxed their recruiting during that time, and Wardle maybe capitolized on that. Hegner could become Green Bay's most highly recruited player they've landed since Tony Bennett. The article also mentions Green Bay's attendance. It's really poor so far, but is still on track to finish in the upper half of the conference.

The inability of GB to get the Koch brothers was squarely on TK and his disjointed recruiting philosophy versus the system he was trying to run.....By the time he even put effort in trying to land Adam, he already committed to UNI. We could have had a stream of local mid-major D1 talent from the GB area and may have helped in attendance.
We need to get Wichman and try to get some more local intrest from the area HS in GB baskeball again, and maybe get some more casual fans to the Resch....
