Phoenix HC Brian Wardle: I know it sounds like people are really upset with what we've done. 5 years ago they would have been begging for it Wardle: "If we think the NIT is a bad thing for Green Bay basketball it's the wrong mentality to have. It's extremely positive." That's just Wardle's way of justifying mediocrity, what do you expect him to say?

It's disappointing, but no where near mediocre. Of all the things Coach Wardle has done, most impressive is that he's killed the underdog mentality. In the years Bennett made the NIT it was celebrated. Wardle had installed a new found confidence and mindset in the fan base.

Maybe if he had done that in his first or second year it would be impressive, but after 4 seasons with the teams he has been blessed with, it is mediocrity. I still feel the underdog mentality during big games which signifies two things, I am naturally skeptical and at the same time, Wardle still hasn't killed off that mentality. Alpha dogs don't blow second halves like the Valpo game and they certainly don't gloat about an NIT appearance like he did.

The NIT is is far from mediocre for any mid-major. Do you think we're Duke?

Are you perfectly fine with keifer Skyes saying before the season began that it wasn't ncaa tournament or bust this year?
How in the world can the players have that mindset after they were so close last year and had everyone back but one guy?
To me that is embracing the fact that you are the little guy and your ceiling is only so high. You are saying you have zero expectations. Do you think George mason or vcu talked like that when they made the final four? What about dunk city when they made the sweet 16 as a 15 seed?
If the second best player in program history had that mentality it's no wonder why we haven't made it back since 96 and lost eight straight semifinals games before we got lucky this year and oakland lost to uic.

Why were we lucky UIC beat Oakland? GB just destroyed Oakland, and then gave it to the tan that beat Oakland.

Am I disappointed in GB blowing 2 chances to get to the NCAA's, yes. But we still have an NIT game to play and if the players embrace the challenge, they could go on a run based on the bracket they are in. There are no Power 5 schools to point the "they get all the advantages" finger at, and it's wide open. First round NIT games are always interesting: You have teams at the top of the bracket that felt they should have been in the NCAA's and still could be in that mental hangover and not fully engaged.....#2 Miami lost a big lead late in the second half versus #7 NC Central and only won by 4. #4 Pitt lost at home to #5 George Washington. #3 Illinois got blown out at home by 21 against #6 Alabama. And in our bracket, #2 Tulsa nearly lost to #7 William and Mary at home. There are always teams or a segment of players that will check out mentally since it's not the NCAA's and they would rather be on spring break than playing in the NIT.
We could catch Ill. St. in the post-MVC Championship collapse hangover they had versus UNI. But at the same time, is GB over their second half collapse versus Valpo? A simple things such as mindset of team and the fact that they are still playing basketball against quality competition that we would normally not be able to play in the regular season, going forward, will determine how far GB can go in the NIT.

How is that a deal? Isn't normal price for miller lite like three bucks a bottle? So a whole quarter off?

Watch for the 30 second shot clock tonight and the 4 ft charge arc (vs. 3 ft). Shot clock should be especially interesting.

Hate to say I told ya so... We can't shoot or look even remotely coherent on offense. Once again Wardle can't draw ANYTHING up. Lynch ate us alive just like I said. Way to put Humphrey in too, classy....
I hope we never see Wardle on the sidelines again, he just reaffirmed all criticisms I have had.
I'll end my rant by saying I am proud individually of all Sykes, Humphrey, Mays and McKinnie have done. I wish they could've gone out on a better note but this doesn't take away from 4 good years. This group is one of the best and will always be remembered. Congratulations guys!

No doubt, this team was limited on offense, and when they play strong defensive teams it showed up big. The big guy for ISU destroyed us on both offense and defense. Knight's favorite whipping boy Lowe was severely overmatchec as were all of the front line guys. If the Phoenix would have had even one deadly shooter on their team, it could have opened some things up for them, but nobody emerged this year as a shooter. Hurt them again tonight.
