No, they wanted out. They left because they wanted out of this program one way, or the other. It is his program. So they did quit on him. Not on the court but certainly off of it. Guys transferred because they wanted to play more and bigger roles that wasn’t going to happen at GB. Not like any of them left to go to better programs. Guys transferring has nothing to do with why he’s gone or state of program. Look at every program in the country.

If Gb believes there won’t be a season firing Linc makes sense if they are moving to d-2. They would have had to pay him regardless this year.

Most players don't leave programs and sit an entire year before senior seasons unless they really want out badly. Take Sam Hauser for example.

Firing coaches does absolutely nothing to alleviate any financial pains, even if you're moving to D2, because you'd now have to pay the fire coached and the new coach. The removal of Darner is only financially motivated in the sense that a better coach could bring in more fans and more motivated boosters. I doubt this is the reason for his removal either. May firings generally come with "just cause" allegations, and an ensuing legal battle over contract payment. Tomorrow will be interesting. This, exactly.

Your negativity is super annoying. Just because you don’t want it to happen doesn’t mean it isn’t sadly true. People said I was nuts when I called for Lincs head to begin with. They’ve already gotten rid of scholarships for certain sports suspended the tennis program etc. The virus is hitting sports hard and schools like this who are already tettering on the edge this could be the final straw.

Your negativity is super annoying. It’s a pessimistic take, but I wouldn’t totally rule it out, either. Lots of question marks all over this whole situation.

People said I was nuts when I called for Lincs head to begin with. You also were the guy who said if Linc has health issues then we could get another coach. Not sure why you are even allowed on this board anymore.

I personally don’t want a D3 coach taking over our program. No disrespect I think GB looks at Gary for fan support and maybe financial support? Does hiring Gary increase the fan base and/or financial donations to the program? That's the motivation that I can see behind a possible hire.

Makes more sense to move to D3 than D2. Since Ath is in such a financial restraint, how else are you going to buyout a coach of over 1.2 million? Entering the D3 Wisconsin league would make much more money sense with league play and travel. Plus you can save around 275,000 on scholarship alone from 13 players. D3 in men’s hoops takes a step towards all of the ath programs moving to a lower level a year from now.

I get that he played here and would have local support, but what has he done recently at Saint Norbert that would make anybody think he would have success at GB at the D1 level??? Have that made a recent NCAA tournament run that I’m unaware of??

Did sneak an at-large bid this past year, but lost to St Thomas in the first round. He hit his ceiling there like 6 years ago.
