Y'all just had to find a way to disrupt my lengthy and tranquil repose...

How do you keep a coach who has just had half the team transfer, or quit on him in the last few months? No players quit on him. They all looking for greener pastures and a better opportunity or fit.

No, they wanted out. They left because they wanted out of this program one way, or the other. It is his program. So they did quit on him. Not on the court but certainly off of it.

Does anyone know about how much the women’s coaches make? I suppose if there are major budgetary concerns wouldn’t they be gone too? They’re all still in tact, as far as I know.

Guys transferred because they wanted to play more and bigger roles that wasn’t going to happen at GB. Not like any of them left to go to better programs. Guys transferring has nothing to do with why he’s gone or state of program. Look at every program in the country.

Been over 4 hours and still nothing from the university. Hopefully we get something tomorrow The fact that there hasn’t even been a generic press release makes me think there is a lot more than meets the eye, here. If you’re Guthrie, why not just make a simple statement to the press when they called like “wish him the best in his future endeavors,” or the same generic PR statements that are always made. That would at least give the illusion that they are on top of the situation.

Consult lawyers before opening mouth to avoid additional collateral damage at lawsuit time?

Consult lawyers before opening mouth to avoid additional collateral damage at lawsuit time? This program/school can’t afford a lawsuit. If they fired him despite what Linc says he must have did something illegal to deserve it. Or they are going to D-2 and will claim they can’t afford him anymore.

Option 2: Quickly working out the settlement to avoid the lawsuit and quiet the waters. Any way you slice it without an immediate settlement there's going to be a huge scandal. I don't see the people of WI as a whole or the subset comprised of sports fans being very comfortable with paying over $1 million + legal costs over the firing of a GB BB coach. (I may be unpleasantly surprised, but I so doubt that Linc did anything "illegal". Ever. Not that kind of guy.)

Firing coaches does absolutely nothing to alleviate any financial pains, even if you're moving to D2, because you'd now have to pay the fire coached and the new coach.
The removal of Darner is only financially motivated in the sense that a better coach could bring in more fans and more motivated boosters.
I doubt this is the reason for his removal either. May firings generally come with "just cause" allegations, and an ensuing legal battle over contract payment. Tomorrow will be interesting.
I like Guthrie, he's simply more organized, professional, and mature than his predecessor. I look forward to his statement, when he feels prudent to share it.

What if they only have to pay him for one year before hiring someone much cheaper or sadly not having a program at all?
