I am not putting anything in my bucket. I'm stating my opinions. Which were formed by talking to many of these players by the way. But whatever. Doesn't matter much anymore. They gone!
Green Bay isn’t going D2/3. They would have had to notify the HL of that decision by now and they have not. In regards to the thoughts that a new AD and chancellor just want to bring in their guy, that just doesn’t make sense this time of year. If you are making a move like that you announce it within a week of your season ending so you have time to find “your guy” to replace him with and give him as much time to recruit to fill out his late period recruiting class. Any half decent AD knows you are going to have an extremely hard time finding a good coach this late in the process and all that will be left on the recruiting front is the scraps no one else wants. With the financial situation all colleges are in right now it also doesn’t make sense for Green Bay to get rid of Darner just to bring in their guy if they are going to owe him a big buy out.
If you look at past years you will see coaches that get fired at this time of year usually get fired for doing something they shouldn’t be doing and get fired for cause. To me, that makes the most sense on the timing as well as the financial implications.
In Wisconsin State system, the AD can’t fire somebody theirselves, they need the chancellor to sign off on it. So doing it right after the season wasn’t an option because they just hired the new chancellor recently. Also, look at Darner’s past, never had any(or significant) NCAA violations, has always done things by the book. Not sure if he’s ever been in any type of trouble. AD has made a lot of coaching changes at GB and past schools, seems like basketball and Linc were just next on his list.

Too many questions right now to give an educated explanation. I hope they have a plan in place given the current situation and that the buyout isnt severe.
This letter did not age very well though!

Glad to hear we are staying d-1.
How are we gonna afford this though? The boosters must have offered to pay for a good chuck of the firing or something.
They better have someone in mind already. Sadly I think Amari is gone now. If they get Jimmie Foster maybe there’s an outside chance he stays but anyone else within Wisconsin I think he’s as good as gone 😪
Wow......Just when I though this board was getting a little sleepy due to COVID-19. But I digress.....
The timing of Linc's firing is horrible, but if they were waiting for the new Chancellor to come in, then that's the only explanation of said bad timing.
However, if Linc has all of that money left on his deal, they better have a favorable buyout in place. GB does not have the budget to pay Linc's entire remainder of his contract as well as legal fees if they fired him for his on-court performance, which wasn't bad, but the RP40 system was an abysmal failure. If you can't stop even average opponents within your own conference, then you need a new system. Linc brought in talent, but they could not guard a folding chair. You really can't count Linc's first year in GB since it was still BW's players and they already had an experienced team and a defensive culture built into that roster. They used that to their advantage (and Linc's up and down offensive system, which better maximized the offensive talents of BW's players; who knew Jordan Fouse could have been a decent offensive threat) as they went to the NCAA tourney, but gave us a false sense of hope as well. Just then you think Linc's teams were going to turn a corner, they lose to a last place HL team and frustrate the fan base even more....a fan base that was never fully on board with Linc.
As far as what's next, at least the UWGB leadership shot down any D2/D3 rumors......but still leaves speculation as to why fire Linc now. Was there something for-cause?
Who will be the next coach at GB? I like the short list, but as far as hiring Gary Grezsk, his ship has sailed; He's been passed over twice already. SNC has dropped off, and even then, his teams never got out of the first weekend of the D3 tourney. The MWC is a bottom tier league anyway. I'd rather take someone from a WIAC school if we looked at the D3 ranks.....Brad Soderberg has HC experience at multiple levels (with mixed success) and has sat on the bench with 2 coaching greats named Bennett who both got their teams to Final Fours and UVA winning it all in 2018-2019. He's a local guy and a Bennett guy, but how would he recruit? Ben Johnson is intriguing; He's local, but has spent most of his career on the west coast and in Australia. Could he bring Aussie talent into GB? I don't know if they would have the travel budget to accomplish that. Could he get more in-state talent to come to GB? I would see a defensive culture with Ben, but maybe would be more open offensively. I think Soderberg would be more restrictive like Grezsk or even TB (but TB has access to 4 and 5 star talent w/in 3 hours of Charlottsville).
Hang on GB fans, the next few weeks will be bumpy........

Mark Miller @wisbbyearbook · 21m Still lots of questions without answers with the Green Bay coaching situation. The statement released by school did not state why Darner was let go. Or if he will receive his entire buyout.

So, they waited a full day to make generic comments and provide no real insight? This is all so confusing. Now it is being made out to sound like the two parties “agreed to part ways,” while yesterday, it was reported that Linc was “blindsided?”
I’m also kind of disappointed in the job, or lack there of, on the behalf of local reporters, here. Other than Dave Schroeder at least attempting to call Guthrie, no one has made it sound like they’ve even made an effort to get to the bottom of this. I know local media has largely ignored the Phoenix, in general, but given that this is a public school and this move potentially could have large budget ramifications, wouldn’t it be their duty to at least try? Perhaps they have been, but it’s all been random Twitter speculation from guys like Demovsky (I know this isn’t exactly his beat), while it took a national college basketball reporter to even break the story. I know Venci has at least been tweeting about the situation, but it’s mainly been just to reiterate what both parties have been publicly saying.

In Lundy They Thrust
"I had to come up through the ranks" - FORMER "Coach" Will "Bo Ryan's kid" Ryan
The timing stinks, there doesn't appear to be much of a coherent strategy, and of course there is the matter of the $'s.
Lets face it, GB has issues and they are mostly baked into the cake: budget, recruiting, scheduling. I'm not sure how firing Linc helps significantly with any of them and in fact may exacerbate them.
I have no idea what you'll do for a coach.
Linc will land on his feet somewhere good. He's gonna have a big pot of money so he could even go back to D2 if he wanted. (Not likely.) I think Donnelly's all set at FSC for a few years so I doubt he's coming back here. That said, he'd be welcome back with open arms by many if he wanted it.
As far as the money's concerned, Linc should make certain he gets every single $ he's due. No Mr. Nice Guy.
