Dayton lost. So John Brannen can leave? Even if Dayton goes to nit? More importantly, he can interview as a finalist now that he has some time. If I was a betting man the interview was completed last week already.

By all accounts we should be getting some confirmation of the new coach sometime soon.
It is really hard to know with Brannen what is real or not. There were some articles that are really damaging and others that made him seem old school but not an animal. From just a coaching perspective he is easily the most accomplished and best on paper hire.
With Gottlieb we don't know if he fully understands the work level required at a job like this. We also don't know who he can get for assistant coaches. That was a big part of his pitch for Oklahoma St in 2017. I am sure he is still aware enough to know he needs a really good staff to help make connections to recruits and help him build up his in game coaching level.
With Johnson you have an extremely nice and knowledgeable man who gives a direct connection to an era some fans haven't been able to leave. He does have some amount of time as a head coach and the international recruiting and recent portal work is interesting too. Somewhere in this thread someone mentioned Wicks had a resume of being with teams that didn't win. That would also be fair to comment on for Johnson.
With Tharp you have the guy who as a person best personifies Green Bay. I don't think his style translates to winning big but I have no doubt he would win a decent amount of games for GB.
In Wicks you have a guy that will lose the press conference even though he and those around him think he is winning it. From what I can tell the more people are around him the more they realize his message is really good even if his initial messaging is probably over the top. He is another guy that needs to have one good X&O coach on the bench with him but overall he is far better than I initially thought. He along with Gottlieb are classic high risk and high reward hires.
I know what I would do if I were in charge and these were the names. I also know that may not happen and I may have to open up my mind to the potential in others I wasn't willing to see.
Once we get the news then we can really fire up that transfer thread and start talking about those coming and going. That would be a welcome diversion from all of the coaching talk of the past few months!

Is the cbs sports Matt Norlander article false. That uwgb is down to four candidates. And Tharpe is no longer is a candidate. There down to 4 Johnson, gottlieb, Brannen, and wicks? Or is the Green Bay press gazette article right and they still have 5? With Tharpe being the fifth.

We have the five names and we should find out soon enough. Probably in the next 48 hours I’m thinking.

I got paid for writing news releases and developing media strategy for schools and companies. Timing is an important element for media coverage and for "business" factors. For the Nix that "business" issue is securing a coaching staff and a roster. There's a window to get things done.
Any local, regional or the chance of even a national mention of the hire will pretty much get squeezed down once the NCAA Tournament gets underway and the developing Aaron Rodgers story.
Back in the 1980s Marquette had a nightmare scenario when Rick Majerus left to be a Bucks assistant. It all happened in late spring when the coaching candidate pool was picked over for head coaches and assistants. They went ahead with a disaster hire that cost them five years.
Then there's Arkansas in the 1990s that had a splashy hire and the guy backed out in four days.

Interesting that John Tharp is now the Athletic Director at Hillsdale and hires an Omro native as the new head coach. I wonder if Pritz had stayed, if he would now be head coach.

I don't get the hate for Division III coaches. Gary Grzesk, Matt Lewis or Kent Dernbach would all do great in this role. They all have Division I experience and have showed they can coach, recruit and sustain success consistently. Luke Reigel is another guy who would probably do very well at UWGB. The most "make sense" candidate who has ties to the athletic director, was a former head coach and has success over multiple stops as an assistant...Sundance "Sunny" Wicks.
