They may only announce one finalist - the guy who ends up getting the gig. That's been the trend lately.

IF that list is accurate, the choice is easy… Brannon IF this is the list, Brannen is the clear choice then in the distance I go Tharp and then Phillips. I would hire Freddie Owens, either Pritzl brother, Jim Sarrow, my wife and Dick Bennett via zoom before i would hire Gottlieb.... You know if we really want publicity, hiring a female would definitely do that. Can Mrs. DoubleJ recruit well in the Chicago area?

Mark Murphy will talk to the finalists according to ad josh moon. Who we think? Hoop dirts adam nelson is a source. It’s main job is coaching rumors. You make not like someone it doesn’t mean it’s not real. I will admit barone has been tweeting about upcoming siu mens basketball summer camps and other siu men’s basketball events he may not be someone wanting the uwgb job. But hoop dirt today mentioned a candidate who had success in the horizon league I believe 100% it’s rob jeter. Gary Grezsk has been in three different coaching cycles why didn’t he get job any of those three different times the job was open he put his name a fourth time? He seems happy at st. Norbert. Uwgb has kicked the tires on Gary 3 times. Gary has been unsuccessful at the getting the job 3 times sometimes you stop trying. Rumor is that Grezsk pulled out of the last search because they were trying to get someone on the cheap. He also wanted to coach his son who is not a D1 player, which he does at St. Norbert, and has been there long enough that he gets free tuition for his son and daughter. Now was he interested this time around because they'd be paying more and his daughter as a scholarship at Madison? I don't know. The story I heard was he pulled out because Guthrie was basically a big blowhard during the process. The job was his and he said no after being put off by our dearly beloved and departed AD. I heard a rumor that GB reached out this time but he was not interested.

They may only announce the man who gets the job this time. But last time they announced the four finalists. Will Ryan, Jimmy foster, that guy who use to be at notre dame, and brad soderberg.

They may only announce one finalist - the guy who ends up getting the gig. That's been the trend lately. I hope that is correct. What is the point of announcing 4 finalists - knowing 3 of them WON'T be getting it? It's almost like a low-level shaming or something, I see absolutely no positive in doing that. Unless you're looking for some type of public feedback or something? But we're beyond that I would think?

In the past I thought there were state laws about how long the job had to be posted and possibly having to disclose the candidate pool. That clearly doesn't seem to be the case anymore based on the UW football and UWM basketball coaching searches last year. I would guess that any info that is coming out is coming from the coaches themselves.
As for the coaches on this list. Two of these guys have led mid majors to the D1 NCAA tournament. I am pretty sure that would be the exact definition of success for the job. This isn't the time to over think things or try to hit a grand slam.

I knew the candidate pool didn't have to be public, I meant the finalist pool. You make a great point about only having one finalist to keep it a secret.

It's what we did last year. I'm pretty sure Lundy wasn't our first choice. Luckily he was the right one. Let's hope GB does the same.

Sounds like they would like a head coach to be in place by middle/end of next week when NCAA Tourney begins.

The benefit to firing Will Ryan mid season was to get a head start on hiring a new coach. We should be the first team in the country to announce a new head coach, otherwise firing Ryan when we did was pointless.

I would like it better if they took there time and made the right hire. By the way Gottlieb is in Chicago for the Big 10 tournament. I am just saying.

We should be the first team in the country to announce a new head coach, otherwise firing Ryan when we did was pointless. I am thinking the benefit to making the move in January was to get a head start on fundraising. They rolled out a very public campaign for men's basketball before the season ended. I am sure the campaign had some positive reception but based on the names we see on this board inflation is worse than we thought or they didn't raise enough to go upstream in the candidate pool. Other than Brannen, which of these coaches most recently mentioned should command more than Darner was making? Based on how the process is playing out I doubt waiting longer will yield better results. They would essentially have to start over with new people that would want to be considered and I can't see that happening. At some point people usually just accept good enough if it means they can move on to other items. Based on several of these names we are staring right in the face of good enough.
