Sundance wicks and and Ben Johnson are final candidates. Not Saul Phillips did he pull himself out?

John Brannen seems like the best choice of this recent batch of names.

According to Venci, Doug Gottleib is still in the mix as well.

John Brannen seems like the best choice of this recent batch of names. In this day and age of "student-athlete well-being" he is going to have to answer some tough questions about how it ended at Cincy pretty well in order to land an offer.

A good starting point is figuring out for sure what he exactly did at UC. By all accounts a group of kids didn't like him and left. The AD took that as an opportunity to move on from him. A court finding of 2.75 million dollars seems to answer some questions in his favor. Or GB can hire 4 guys that have no business getting a D1 head coaching job...

What does that even mean? GB is one of the worst programs in the country. Wicks, Tharp and Brennan would all do great things if given the chance.

This line of thinking would have disqualified Dick Bennett in 1985. Granted that was almost 40 years ago but if you can coach you can coach.

Wow according to the Green Bay press gazette. Saul Phillips never interviewed for the job I was fooled. According to espn at least he was a candidate.

No need to overthink this. Of the 5 names left, Brannen is the best option by a wide margin

Everything is different about how to build a winning team. Basketball has evolved from a style and strategy perspective. What works in lower levels of basketball doesn't always work in higher levels. The skill level has changed for kids. The level of athlete and skill needed to win a D1 game is higher. The entire problem with this search is people don't want to accept it is time to look forward and not backwards.

Brannen has the best resume, no question. Will he be the choice? Time will tell. A good business venture does require risk and differentiation. We will see what Moon does.
The other finalists when Bennett got the job were Iowa assistant Jim Rosborough, Pitt assistant Jay Eck (who ultimately took the UWSP job) and Bradley assistant Tony Barone. Bennett got a bump to $42,000 from the $36,000 he was making at Point.
Bennett was obviously the best of the four. My point is today everyone would howl if they hired him over two Power 5 assistants and an assistant from a quality mid-major. Even if he was the best man for the job. Which he was and still would be. "Fit" requires more than a resume.
