Agreed, he might have struggles in this uptempo setting. I'd pass on him.. You'd pass on him but take Riley? Mooney would be an good addition with the penetrators we are currently recruiting. A deadeye shooter is something this team has needed for several years. Someone we can drive and kick too for the open 3. The difference is Riley actually mobile. In an uptempo system it doesn't pay to have one of your good shooters lag behind in say a fast break situation. Getting guys like Mooney seems like a reactionary move to the TK era.

Joe Mooney's brother Matt had a solid year for Air Force, and is now transfering. I wonder if Green Bay is also interested in him?
Darner plays uptempo, but doesn't rely solely on athletes. He uses the fast break to get his shooters open.
He recruits hard working high character players. Despite have droves of juco players Florida Southern his players didn't have off the court issues.

I guess i don't see the mobility or athleticism you do in Riley. I thought he looked very average in that department, combine that with a 5'6 frame and I think he would have an extremely hard time making shots over average sized guards that are a half foot taller than him. I think Mooney could come in and contribute right away, I think Riley is a big "if" if he would ever contribute.

Seemed to me like he has no problem doing the exact same thing in HS, guys were a foot taller and still couldn't guard him. His near 40 PPG isn't a fluke, it's a very telling stat that cannot be overlooked.

When I hear the name Mooney, I think of Principal Rooney from Ferris Beuller's Day Off.....But I digress. We need shooters in this program now, and if he's a more athletic Cam Cerroni, he will do fine in Linc's system.
If Bryson Scott does not end up transferring at GB, I could see Linc maybe taking a chance on Riley and giving him a scholarship, but I would think he would be redshirted for 2015-2016 (while Linc gets a PG or combo guard for next season who can play right away). He HAS to get bigger and stronger and hopefully he will grown another inch or two (maybe he's a late bloomer). A legit 5'8"-5'9", 150-160# version of Riley would have a better chance succeeding as a backup PG (and eventual contributor in the rotation) in the Horizon League than a 5'6", 130-140# version he is now.....I don't think Linc takes a transfer in Scott (who will have to sit out next season) AND a likely redshirt developmental guy in Riley, when GB will be thin at guard next season.....
If we get Matt Mooney (and would not be able to play until next season), then I don't think Riley would have a chance at a scholarship right away. I don't think we want to carry 2 D1 transfers who can't play (Matt Mooney and Bryson Scott), then a guy who needs a redshirt year to develop physically to see if he can play mid-major D1 ball (Riley).....At that point, he's a walk-on redshirt candidate if he comes to GB and presumably we also sign Cooper and Joe Mooney
If Linc got Cooper, Scott, and both Mooney brothers, it would be a great start.....Now for a JC forward.....
Hopefully we will see some signings next week. We're about midway through the signing period.

Does anyone with any insider knowledge know anything about the Phoenix even sniffing at Riley?
According to his instagram he will be in Ohio today for something basketball related, possible recruiting visit but I'm not positive.

Theres are reason why you don't see many guards under 5'10, and when you do the are super athletic. Mooney on the other hand dominated at the Under Armor event in New Orleans against top competition. The guy can play and play right now if need be. The 6-2 lefty averaged 22 points and nearly six rebounds a game while shooting 52 percent from 3-point range, 62 percent inside the arc and 80 percent from the foul line at the national Under Armour event in New Orleans. Mooney face top competition that included the No. 1 player nationally in the Class of 2016, 6-7 wing Josh Jackson of Napa, Calif., and two other top-10 players" www.chicagotribune.com/sports/highschool/ct-spt-0422-prep-basketball-recruiting-notes-20150421-story.html

I'm surprised that Darner allowed Torres to transfer to another Horizon League school. That could be interpreted as a classy tip of the hat to the player and the league. The Bulls Eye Brothers are saying Wardle cooled on Torres and didn't offer him a scholarship. He wanted Pittman and reeled him in quickly. Despite not giving GB and the new coach a chance I'm sure we're all wishing Daeshon Francis well at his next stop. I suspect he wants to follow the coaches who recruited him. It's easier following the known rather than the unknown. I do think Peoria is in his future.
If the Nix can land Cooper and Mooney and keep the remaining players GB can be competitive in the coming season. I've heard this from a number of college coaches -- the most recruiting mistakes are made during the tail end of the recruiting season.

This, exactly. --^^ (Players with BB IQ and NO DRAMA - as in ZERO!)
If Mooney has stamina and can play good man-to-man defense he could be a good "Linc" player. Whatever he is now if he wants to be a player Linc will make him better.
I've watched about 6 minutes of this 18 minute video so far:

As long as Linc doesn't sign the second coming of Chop Tang or Daniel Munday (kid from Australia who wasn't even seen by TK before signing him; he was a mid-level D2 talent at best and did NOT fit in TK's ball screen continuity system), we will be fine.....;-)

When we talk about recruits is it okay to make a thread for each individual potential recruit. Just hard to follow when we're jumping around. I've seen other boards do it

I've seen other boards do it Yes, feel free to start a new thread. For a few years I've been contaplating starting whole new section just for recruiting, and I think the timing for that would be perfect right now. I can move any new threads started there. I'll get that started this weekend.

Releasing a player from a LOI is different than a transfer release. There's no option to limit a player who hasn't yet enrolled in school. I'm still waiting for Linc to do the right thing in regards to Daeshon Francis.
