Someone at work bet me ten bucks GB won’t win six games next year. I cannot wait for all the haters to eat crow. I’ll be keeping all the receipts.
Let’s go!

The introduction press conference should be interesting tomorrow morning. With Bennett Baisch staying maybe Mac Wrecke will to.

Gottlieb has enough contacts in the business to fillout the roster. With that Sunny buyout money and the extra buzz around the program donations should be up. I'm sure a percentage of the fans will be skeptical and should be. I'm optimistic and would take that bet your co-worker offered. This promises to be the most interesting season for the Nix since the hay days of Dick Bennett. Whether that translated to an above .500 season depends on a lot of unknowns.

Staff composition will be more key for Gottleib than if we had a different HC. Also, will there be any holdovers from Sunny’s staff? I felt that we were starting to establish in-state connections as well as players from Illinois with Sunny’s staff. I’m sure Gottleib have a lot of connections in the AAU circuit but getting a kid from SoCal to come to a school in the upper Midwest that isn’t awash in NIL funds is a different story.
I’m warming up to Gottlieb being HC after listening to his interview and listening to the first segment of his radio show this afternoon. Self-reflection and being able to make adjustments will be key to his success.

So far, Gottlieb has gotten public endorsements from Tom Izzo, Fran McCaffrey, and Shaka Smart. Not bad company Yes, and Will Ryan had public endorsements from Bo Ryan, Greg Gard, Saul Phillips, and Rob Jeter. Those endorsements are vital!

It also sounds like he will be bringing in a mostly new staff, according to his radio show, as well as the fact that Nic Reynolds already left for Laramie, too.

I haven’t cared much for Phoenix Basketball for quite a few years. But this hire has me interested. Maybe it will be a complete train wreck, or maybe it’s a home run hire that sets us apart from other mid majors.
Either way it will be interesting to watch.

His comment on his show today "time management skills are not one of my strengths-the first hire I make will be someone who can do that for me" raised red flags for me. I am assuming his first coaching hire will be his brother Gregg. That would make two openings that need to be filled by (preferably) assistants who have ties to high schools/coaches in the state/midwest. His chances of succeeding will hinge on his ability to assemble a high level staff.

I haven't posted on this board in years, but I lurk around and read the threads every few weeks (thanks all for keeping me engaged in Phoenix content).
My first reaction to Gottlieb was probably similar to many of you. But processing it throughout the day, I'm intrigued. To me it is a less famous, less charismatic Deion Sanders-type of hire. If he can fill out his staff with people who can really coach, he can be the CEO-type of HC who can bring money and (potentially) recruits. Given the status of all low-major programs, that's the most you can hope for.
If it implodes, at least it will be a spectacle. But if it works, you have the chance to open up a window of success before he jets for a bigger and better opportunity.

If he’s really keeping his radio job, and with a teen-hoops son, I believe Gottlieb will be less committed to the community than Linc - if it’s possible. Josh Moon made a career make or break hire that will prove itself by the beginning of year 2. I hope he was right!

I know I’m jumping the gun here but he mentioned he’s going to play a “different” style of basketball. Curious what that will mean? Press the whole game!?!

If he brings nil money from his supporters which it sounds like he will it won’t matter what he does with the community. Money talks and bullshit walks. Linc couldn’t raise money.
