This is wild. Whether you think this is gonna work or not, you can't deny this is going to be incredibly entertaining.

Further, I'm listening to Jon Rothstein on the Bill Michaels Show right now, and he reiterated the point that Doug has always wanted to coach at OKST. That, in itself, likely means he's going to be motivated to not half-ass this, as its probably the only chance he will get, and he needs to do well if he's ever going to get that job in the future. OKST is a higher profile job than Wyoming, so a single 18 win year isn't going to cut it if that spot ever comes open.

He wasn’t my first choice for the job, but in today’s college basketball landscape I’m more open to trying wacky stuff like this. And I’m much more open to him taking over the team now as opposed to last season.
As I said before, I have no reason to doubt Moon based on what he’s done so far, so I’ll continue to trust him here. And I’m also glad they went outside the current staff to fill the position.

All of the "you're not a real fan because you were lukewarm on Sunny and despised Will Ryan!!1!" people are dead silent right now. Not your cup of positivity? Complacency has gotten this team and program absolutely nowhere. A cookie-cutter, copy-paste coach was never going to sustain the energy that this team needs to keep up.
Green Bay basketball will literally be talked about every day on a fairly widely-listened to national radio program. This is a massive, massive profile boost.

At age 73 I am not surprised easily. This hire did that and more. Talk about an out of the box move, it will be either high reward or a disaster, I'm hoping for the former. You can say this, no other coaching selection at UW-Green Bay would have attracted the level of media and college basketball world attention as this one -- not even if Taylor Swift had agreed to take the job. Perhaps I'm wrong on the Taylor Swift claim. I reserve all judgement on Coach Doug Gottlieb and wish him well. I look forward to hear his gameplan. A message for athletic director Josh Moon, if you need a place to hide out in the coming years as your employment picture changes we have a spare room since our youngest is moving out.

Added notes....When McCabe transferred to UNLV he was one of the portals the new coach brought in. The new UNLV coached replaced the then coach who was at UNLV for only two years. This coach departed to Iowa State in March of 2021.....so McCabe knows what it is like to come in with a new coach etc...Hopefully it doesn't take GB long to a hire a new BB coach. Reason being.... for instance GB hired Kayla (Tetschlag) Karius for the women's bb head coach April 23....she still hasn't been able to hire her new assistant coaches as those three positions had to be posted. Yesterday (May 13th) was the last day to apply... that is three weeks since her being hired.....hopefully GB hires the new men's bb coach asap because if it takes three plus weeks just to post assistant coaches positions the school surely does not want to delay the hiring of the new men's coach as it creates uncertainty for current players on the roster as well as the new players coming in..
..Finally my last comment....awhile back a post indicated GB athletic programs was on probation....this was due to lack of funding in order to maintain D1 status....the reason the school was placed on this type of probation was due to the school dropping Tennis and not funding the Women's and Men's Nordic Ski programs...from what I have heard the AD department is now in full funding compliance. The NCAA will continue to review the school as they are on that sort of probation until 2031....the Chancellor is fully confident that necessary funding etc will be maintained....

Was the probation due to the funding issues a byproduct of the Charles Guthrie era?

College basketball coaches have to do a lot of work. I honestly don't think Gottlieb has it in him. Y'all fell for the Sunny nonsense too so I guess I'm not surprised.

Bart Fraud Lundy was jealous of the hype/attention Sundance Wicks got from the media. Just think how jealous he will be now!

Don’t loop me in with all the Sunny kool-aid drinkers. I said day one he was little more than a roided-out middle school football coach that seemed more bark than bite. Lot of bark with Gottlieb too, the bottom could be Will Ryan level, but the ceiling is greater than what Sunny offered.

After leaving Al Grushkin's interview session in 2002, I thought it would be crazy to hire such a crazed, carnival barker.
I can now say I have seen it all.
