I always thought that Coach Wicks would the players already there. After all he is suppose to be a development guy or so I thought. All of these guys are young and never got any development from coach Ryan. I don't think that this was a good look for the athletic department. I don't know about you guys but for me half the fun is watching how the players develop from freshmen to seniors. I have read that Moon thinks the portal is the be all end all but I am not interested in watching the team rotate players every year. fans want to identify with there team and cheer for the players they have been watching for 4 years. Coach McCollum said if you take in transfers you will always have transfers. I want my team to win but I want the coach and the athletic department to to it the right way.I don't think it is the right way to build attendance either. Look at what Darner did, he brought in mostly junior college transfers, he won but the attendance went down. The portal or junior college players should be used to fill in holes and NOT to build a team. everything works both ways. The players weren't recruited by Wicks and I think a lot od them were in it for the long haul and Wicks did not recruit these guys he and should be willing to develop these guys. After all he said he wants to teach the team to compete first, but he also has to teach them to win. All players like Don and Cade wanted to do is bring Green Bay Basketball back and become better players through the process. Whats wrong with that? All I am saying Sunny do your job Coach Teach Develop and Win.

All players like Don and Cade wanted to do is bring Green Bay Basketball back and become better players through the process. Whats wrong with that? All I am saying Sunny do your job Coach Teach Develop and Win. These are excellent points and I understand where your coming from here. I have struggled with this since the transfer portal cracked open making it do easy for kids to move. I am not against the portal as a whole, or NIL, but kids need to deal with some adversity and mentally be able to handle it even if things are not going how you thought it would when you arrived. Thats life. Nothing is perfect and there will be good days and bad days, but learning how to struggle and deal with adversity is the best attribute someone can have. It makes you midwestern tough. I am all for a kid changing schools if the fit wasn't right etc. But most of these moves have different intentions and not about basketball most of the time. A former starting point guard is primary example #1. As a local fan, I do want to connect with kids and the team on a long term basis, similar to how Wisconsin has built their teams. Getting to watch a kid play for at least 3 to 4 years and watching them grow from a freshman to a Sr. But with the portal, it seems like that sort of path on a mid major level (and maybe any level) is becoming extinct. I hate to say that and hope I'm wrong, but when programs like Wright State can not keep their kids year after year, as steady as they are from a coaching status and program, what sort of expectation does one have for a program looking to reform and come from the bottom like this program is in now? I like Will Ryan as a person, he fits the sort of person I would want running my program if i were the AD. But as time as gone on, Coach Ryan wasn't ready for this job and the former AD put this program in a difficult spot. Does that mean the players that we signed weren't talented? I can't say that they were not talented but it was obvious when they got on campus they did not develope or were not motivated by this staff enough to make this work even though some love the staff and have said so publicly. Am I not as into the team or a player if I see them for 2 years vs 4? For my personal history, I would say I am not. I cheered just as hard for Sandy Cohen and Jaquan McCloud as I did for Sykes or PJ Pipes. But I do like to see kids from the state come in and have success. I am proud to be from the state, my family grew up here, we are hard working, blue collar, good people (at least most of us) And I want to see my teams have that mentality because that is what I relate with. I want what Fairleigh Dickinson or St Peters has experienced, I mean who doesnt. That is what motivates me as a fan and burns inside when thinking about this program. I want more then just GB defeating Cal 29 years ago as being one of our biggest wins in program history. There isn't alot of difference between those schools compared to a school like GB. It's been a very difficult few years for everyone involved but if recent history has just showed us, the right person and collection of kids coming together can result in great things. Fairleigh Dickinson won 4 games last year, tore it down, restarted the program and beat the #1 overall seed in the toruney this year. That is incredible. I think this area of the country should be showcased more and i want people to know there is more here then just the Packers in town. I want Dick Bennett to be celebrated and mentioned nationally more then just being Tony Bennett's dad. This program has had a high level of success before and with the partnership with the Packers this program brings something unique to the table that other mid major programs can't. But at the end of the day, kids from the midwest, the state or not, winning cures all. I have alot of friends who pay attention from a distance but wont buy in because the program isnt winning. Theres plenty to do now with your time and money vs when we were gorowing up decades ago. But there are passionate fans here with people that want to connect and will rally around a good program.

With no cal klesmit Ryan Wade is the only point guard. In this offense its going to be interesting. Possibly with Clarence Cummings coming back. Brock, marcus, mac, Jack, amari. Are there going to be real bigs in this offense? I don’t know? This offense won’t lack shooting. The defense will have quickness and athleticism.

We all have to realize there is a longggggg way to go in the off-season.
Things had to get worse before they could get better.

I think there is a difference between bringing in a bunch of transfers in year one, when you want guys who fit your system, and bringing them in every year. Let’s see what happens.

Coaches can do workouts with the team until the end of the tournament. So when they say players are being evaluated, it Coach seeing in workouts who has the work ethic.
Player development is real, but it's not easy. Better have guys that are hungry to get better, rather than players who just like Green Bay.

Originally I was upset with losing Short Meyer and Klesmit but then I realized Will Ryan recruited them. We need players that fit in Sunny’s offense. Just because a guy is from Wisconsin doesn’t mean we need them.
The last time his program was where it needed to be we got guys from Chicago and a few from Little Chute but I don’t care where they are from as long as we win.
Let’s get guys here that want to be here and are winners.

I am more in the camp that the "trial period" is more of a test to see who believes in themselves. Who is willing to do the work that maybe hasn't been done previously? Who wants to be good and not just be here?
Some guys that are proven discussed their role. Some guys that are proven to not be good enough were asked to move on. The guys that were unproven are being asked to prove it.
However, I am not having the conversations so I can accept that I may be wrong and this is just Wicks way to clean house without it being his decision so he doesn't look bad. He only gets one chance to start over without looking bad.

Going in to year 3 of his college basketball career I hope Brayden Dailey will have more confidence in himself. I hope he is willing to put in the work but I don’t know. 2 years ago coming into uwgb it was known he redshirted because he wanted to get stronger to be able to play the college game. This year the injury was unfortunate and we were not able to see what he is capable of. I thought he would be a Ryan Clafflin replacement. Ryan Clafflin made some shots and played some pretty ok defense the two years he was at uwgb.

I interviewed a lot of new college grads for starter positions. One of my standard questions was a theoretical one, "What if I said you are clearly intelligent but I don't feel you are cut out for this kind of work?" The responses were an eye opener. Some didn't understand it was a hypothetical question and got angry. I had one young man run out of the building. The ones that were ready to discuss my question cleared the first hurdle.
I had another job candidate start swearing. I stopped him and pointed out his mother was a psychologist and suggested he get on the phone with her to discuss why someone would ask the question in a job interview. I told him if he wanted to talk with me again schedule an appointment. A day later he came in and apologized. He earned the right for the interview to resume.
He realized, thanks to his mother, my question was a way to test his mettle. The young man turned out to be one hell of an employee.

Let Brayden play on the wing and let him go up and down the court more than once without expecting him to make a 3 and I think he will be fine.
Despite being quiet, I think he is plenty confident but was not in a position to succeed. He barely weighs 200 lbs and asking him to battle in the post on defense with limited help isn't going to let him shine.
With his injury I have no clue how they can evaluate his potential. With no stats I have no clue how he would enter the portal and stay in D1. He's is a difficult spot for sure.

I have been puzzled on Donavan Short all season long leading up to what is now his departure. Him being recruited and signing on with GB was heralded here on this board and elsewhere as one of the most highly-regarded recruits in the history of the program. Let's assume he does NOT go elsewhere and become a superstar (which would of course raise other issues with our program in terms of talent recognition and development), I'm stumped as to how could the scouting be so wrong? I suppose playing at little Denmark High limits your exposure to more talented programs, but guys like D. Short partake in other games and workouts against big-time guys right? How could this process have been such a whiff?

Remember Evan Anderson from Eau Claire when he signed for Madison? He was heralded early but ended up a complete bust.
