The regular season is almost here. For better or worse, depending on your perspective, things tip off for real at 6pm on 11/7/22.
The team travels to Terre Haute, IN to take on Indiana State and complete the back half of a home and home series.
ISU plays a more up tempo brand of basketball. They don't have tremendous size inside but they do have a lot of long, athletic and interchangeable players. They are going to take a lot of three point shots as well.
Overall this will be a good barometer of where this team is at.
The Sycamore fans think they are going to win by 20 plus points and are wanting to bet on that. Needless to say they are coming in confident, soon we will know if they are over confident.
Many of the GB turnovers have not come from the PG position. Some guys need to clean up their decision making. Everyone needs to knock down free throws if GB wants to play a close game and have a chance to win.

Some online books have an early line out there showing us getting about 18 points, give or take a half point. This is more than I would have guessed.

Obviously hoping for a win tonight, but realistically just want to see them keep it close and competitive. I'd take the 17.5 points if I was betting. Random thoughts......really hoping turnovers are not a thing and were just part of new/young players getting live game experience in the exhibitions. Rebounding is also going to have to be an emphasis tonight and this season, this is why I think Short is gonna need to play decent minutes. Would also really like to see Zeigler get going to start the season. Lets get it started. Go Phoenix!

I was at the MI Tech game with a former player last week, and his biggest critique of the team was the total lack of spacing on offense, something my untrained eye may have overlooked. If we are going to have a shot, spacing will be key.

Absolutely abysmal 3 point defense...shocker
I'm liking Zae on offense, though!

Amari Jedkins redshirting? He is street clothes. Coach Ryan said In the phear the Phoenix podcast he might.

Brock Heffner is the steal of the century. What a force.

Wheels fell off, big time. Comebacks can't happen when you have no one that wants to (or can) shoot, nor when you fail to defend. Going to be a very long year.

New roster but it appears to be the same old Phoenix. What a major disappointment after a pretty good first half.

The good:
Ziegler looks wonderful
Zae Blake could be a very solid player
Marginally better team free throw shooting
A few cool Heffner blocks
The bad:
No spacing (as I mentioned earlier)
Prized recruit nowhere to be found on the floor
No willingness to take shots
More than double the number of turnovers compared to assists
"Bigs" don't even attempt to use their bodies effectively
I'm unsure what, if anything, Jenkins and Meyer contribute as second year guys
Heffner, while energetic, was over energetic and looked to move around quite sloppily much of the time
Leading rebounder is a guard when the staff has known that getting killed on the glass has really hurt us in recent years

Donovan Short with five minutes and contributed nothing. But let's give him a scholarship instead of Marcus Tomashek.

An all-too-familiar second half collapse

A very 2021-esque second half collapse Just wait until 2045, after Will has FINALLY been given a fair chance and has assembled a roster of exclusively Wisconsin guys! What do you all mean?! Only Will had a tough start with his program coming in during the Covid aftermath, no one else had those same circumstances! Have patience! He’s a Dick Bennett coaching tree guy, so he’s automatically the best guy for the job. Once he lands Donovan Short Jr in 20 some years, it’s over for you fair weather fans who are just haters!
