ISU is a much more physically developed team, was way more athletic and a way better three point shooting team.
This ISU team would have beat the vast majority of teams GB has fielded in the last several decades.
With that said it's incumbent on the coach to get the kind of players that can compete against a team like this.
As for the spacing they use a ball screen heavy offense and have a lot of staggered screens. It's only copies the principals from some of the most successful offenses in professional and college basketball...

Donovan Short with five minutes and contributed nothing. But let's give him a scholarship instead of Marcus Tomashek. Yeah, look at all the D1 teams that gave Marcus a scholarship. Wait, it's actually none. GB has a lot of issues, but they're damn lucky to have Short.

Green Bay got down 8 in the first half and quickly rallied to take the lead. That was a positive sign and something we haven't seen much of.
However, in the second half it was a 9 point game with ten minutes left and a 15 point game with five minutes left. To lose by 27 is disgusting. They didn't stay together and fight back in the second half when it mattered the most.

Tell me, how many D1 scholarship offers did Jeff Nordgaard have coming out of Dawson-Boyd, other than the one he got from Dick Bennett?

Players were hid back then, most teams assumed Jeff was going to play football. Now, with AAU, players have more exposure. Marcus played a ton of AAU, everyone has seen him. He's a really good, hard working player. He just doesn't have the upside of a skilled 6'10" Donovan Short. Marcus could have walked on here. He could transfer here if he dominates D2 ball.

Was it confirmed by Will Ryan after the game that Amari Jedkins was redshirting or by Scott Venci?

You're missing the point. It still comes down to being able to adequately evaluate talent. Victory favors the bold, such as offering a player nobody else has. Don't you think a "skilled" 6-10 guy playing on the slapdash roster that has been currently assembled would be getting more minutes if he were really all that? He couldn't even get his team to the sectional in Division 3 in high school for crying out loud.

It's really too early in the season to be whining.

It's really too early in the season to be whining. We’ve beaten D2/D3 teams by single digits and lost to another mid major by nearly 30. Obviously there’s a long way to go, but everything we’ve seen so far has been pretty pathetic.

It's really too early in the season to be whining. Well said. They were huge underdogs and nobody expected them to win last night so we need to keep that in perspective. This wasn't Cleveland State losing at home to a non-D1. Ultimately the first half was just false hope which made the result even more frustrating. It showed the potential they have but they are a long ways from being a good team. At the end it almost seemed like the team quit during the second half which could be a cause for concern. Looking ahead, I had circled the game two games in Jamaica as winnable but Queens had a big win over Marshall last night in their D1 debut. It's hard to see where the wins are going to come from with second half performances like last night.

Donavan Short is in an interesting spot. You cant play Meyer, Heffner and Short all at the same time and I thought Heffner did a lot of great things last night that didnt show up in the box score. They need to get him to 10+ minutes a game as a guy who can stretch the D and spot Meyer/Heffner minutes. By the end of the year, he may push those guys for more.
The guard play is going to kill us this year. As great as Ziegler was in the first half, I dont see him as a consistent 15+ a game guy. Who is going to step up and hit shots for this team? Rose and Dailey do not look ready for big minutes and the answer to that question goes to school in Houghton MI.

Morgan State and Kansas City look like games that they may be able to win. KC lost to a non D1 last night as well.

It is one game and everyone knows that Short has to put on some weight, it may take him a little time. Guy was not a highly rated recruit for no reason. But hey I am sure everyone who makes recruiting rankings is wrong and the guy in D2 was the far better option!

Here we are back for another season! Here is my game 1 review:
Good:
Ziegler: Looked great and loved the ability to create his own shot, get to the rim and shoot from outside
Heffners defense: Loved the activity on defense. He was all over the court and did a great job protecting the rim
Bad:
Cade meyer did get in foul trouble which could have effected his rhythm. However, he did not was beyond ineffective and did not show much improvement. We need to see him be able to create for himself. Indiana St had two bigs out and he was unable to take advantage. Also, we do not need to see him ever take a 3 point shot again
Guard play outside of Ziegler: I couldn't even tell you what was happening out there half the time. Way too many sloppy turnovers. No one able to create their own shot consistently. No ability to create for others (6 total assists for a whole game is not going to cut it). The amount of times I saw someone penetrate and then just fall to the ground or take a contested shot at the rim with 3 guys waiting was excessive
The offense in general: I mean what are we even running out there. Theres no movement. Everyone stands by eachother allowing for no lanes to drive. Loved the no spacing comment from someone else. Also, if I see that double screen out on the wing, with the three guys involved 3 ft from eachother, I may have an aneurysm. Outside of ziegler keeping them in it in the first half, there was nothing positive on offense. Try and get Garren Davis some shots please too. He looks confident from outside
3 pt defense: Indiana St was missing both bigs and didnt even appear to want to go inside. Yet GB refused to have good defensive rotations and get to 3 pt shooters. It was even worse in transition. Players looked lost out there. This may be a big part of why certain guys who appear to have offensive promise don't get many minutes but something needs to change. This team is not going to win a game they allow more than 70 points and maybe not even 60.
I could probably add more but we will leave it at this and give some of the new guys a couple games to show more promise.
