Morgan State and Kansas City look like games that they may be able to win. KC lost to a non D1 last night as well. I know it’s hard to think this way after last night but my expectation is we will still win the following games: Queens Morgan State/Utah Valley UMKC St Thomas UIC Love the positivity. However, that St Thomas game looks a little tougher after they nearly beat Creighton last night

However, that St Thomas game looks a little tougher after they nearly beat Creighton last night Yeah all the games are going to be tough but those are all games where we should be able to win. Not gauranteeing anything but the moment we think we can’t be competitive with other mid majors is the moment we are done as a program.

It's really too early in the season to be whining. I just see nothing changing. The same issues that plagued us last year look like they're persisting into this year, through the first three games, anyway.

That puts us at the same win total as last year (having seen this team play three games, I even think this is an optimistic forecast). How can an AD look at back-to-back five win seasons and go, "Looks good to me!"

Donavan Short is in an interesting spot. You cant play Meyer, Heffner and Short all at the same time and I thought Heffner did a lot of great things last night that didnt show up in the box score. They need to get him to 10+ minutes a game as a guy who can stretch the D and spot Meyer/Heffner minutes. By the end of the year, he may push those guys for more. The guard play is going to kill us this year. As great as Ziegler was in the first half, I dont see him as a consistent 15+ a game guy. Who is going to step up and hit shots for this team? Rose and Dailey do not look ready for big minutes and the answer to that question goes to school in Houghton MI. Meyer - 19 minutes, Heffner 27 minutes, and Short 5 minutes, so for a lot of this game only one of these guys was on the court. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Certainly sat Meyer a great plenty, foul trouble or not, he only wound up with those first 2 quick ones, and didn't commit a foul the rest of the game. Hard to make an assessment when I can't really identify what I would consider our strengths, either as a team or for any individual guy out there.

GB did have an inch or two in height on ISU in the post. The thing for ISU is that their guys were thicker and stronger. Stephens, Henry, McCauley, Bledson and to a lesser extent Kent were able fend off GB in the post with brute strength. For as much as I like the GB front court guys they are in their second year or less of college hoops. ISU had some grown men on their team.
Something else for GB that seemed to be an issue. Some guys don't seem to have the combination of length/confidence or perhaps the green light to shoot a slightly contested jump shot. I feel like Zeigler, Davis and Rose are hunting for shots. I'd play those dudes along with Blake more.
Also, some transition defense would have helped. Basic stuff like stopping the ball and matching up.
On to Georgetown and whatever the heck channel that game is on for those who still care to tune in after last night.

It is fair to call out some game performance issues and discuss the play on the court.
However, I would challenge everyone to hold back their calls for a coaching change at this time. Why derail a season with such a large scale amount of negativity/distraction after just one regular season game? One regular season game against a pretty good team game that was better than most people's expectations for 30 minutes. Let the guys play and get better together. If they win 5 games all year then scream your head off in March about needing a new coach.

The perspective of those who seem most frustrated is interesting.
Some people say play D Short more. Others say he isn't any good.
He just played one game and has just got into a D1 program. He is a hard worker and has plenty of potential. Five star PBJ didn't show much when he was healthy. Don just has to keep doing what he is doing everyday and the work will eventually speak for itself. Have some patience and faith in these guys even if you don't care for the leadership on the sidelines.

To me he looked completely out of place on the court. I was thinking he should never be in the rotation based on the limited action he had last night.

In the three games Rose is one of the few guys that was able to get open and take some shots.
When he was on the bench the second half defense was not good and they turned the ball over 14 times.
As those two things happened the team had limited fire power. At least Rose is going to get some decent shots up, which means he will make shots. Heck, what did they have to lose?
Much has been on this board of Tomashek. He was terrible in the first half against GB. He got to play through that.
According to the Venci article Rose is the best shooter in practice. Let him shoot through his learning curve.

As much as this board may not believe it. IUPUI and CSU were worse than GB last night.

My major issue with this team is a lack of perimeter shooting and the amount of possessions that are wasted without getting a quality shot off.
