I know we have discussed this a little bit and I can't remember where I posted that GB will be in the Preseason NIT. The hosts are Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Stanford and Villanova. Other schools playing so far are Akron and Savannah State. It looks like the format has changed and that the non host schools play two of the high majors and then break off and play among themselves. It has been reported that Akron is coming to GB as part of this format. www.bloggingthebracket.com/2013/12/2/5166356/2015-16-college-basketball-early-season-tournaments-events-MTEAny other reports of non con games for GB?

Per Scott Vinci on twitter,GB will be playing Toledo on December 6th. I would expect it to be a good match up. It would be a nice home and away series to start. Their coach adds an element of interest.

I will be curious to see what kind of reception Tod receives when coming back to GB. While he might not have been the most likeable person he did a good job of rebuilding the program and making it competitive. He was very gracious upon his departure as well. I hope his reception is warm. As for the game itself Toledo lost several really good players to graduation so it should be a competitive game among two teams reloading this year.

TK took a pile of crap (which the GB program was in 2002) and made them winners again. Yes, it was 2 CBI appearances but it was 2 more than what Mike Heideman did (I'm not counting 1995-1996's NCAA appearance since it was essentially DB's last team, minus Dick Bennett as coach). He took some gambles on guys like Menedeburu, Minatee, and Flores and they were studs, but also took gambles on Munday, McKeee, and Segura, and missed big time. I won't mention Chop Tang....;-)..........but these were mistakes of a first-time head coach. His teams played great offense, and could have been better if he had them in a system that accentuated their talents and minimized their weaknesses better. Defensively, they became average by the time he left....again, mistakes from a first-time head coach.
I think as a fan base we were also struggling to move on from the DB Era. Because TK's style was so different from what DB and MH did, some long-time fans had a hard time dealing with it. TK was not the most fluid regarding self-promotion, therefore he didn't maximize his ability to sell the program in his vision. TK also missed on opportunities to bring in local talent; I remember the Koch brothers from Ashwaubenon and the mid-major D1 players that came from Oshkosh West when Lance Randall was the coach, and GB could not land ANY of them.
TK put together some nice teams for Toledo, but hasn't made it to the NCAA's yet. We will see what he has this coming season......

Teams (8?)
Regional Hosts (4) (Cleveland.com) Arkansas Razorbacks (SEC) Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (ACC) Stanford Cardinal (Pac-12) Villanova Wildcats (Big East)
Visitors (4) Akron Zips (MAC) ETSU Buccaneers (SoCon) Green Bay Phoenix (Horizon) Savannah State Tigers (MEAC)
On-Campus Games
TBA Akron at Arkansas (Jon Rothstein via Twitter) Akron at Villanova (Jon Rothstein via Twitter) Akron at Green Bay (Zips Nation) Savannah State at Akron (Zips Nation) ETSU at Georgia Tech (Buccaneer Nation) ETSU at Villanova (Buccaneer Nation)
This means GB will either play at Savannah State or ETSU. If GB returns the Morehead State game they might be able to plan it to go with ETSU. Playing Villanova is out since both of their games are taken, so the Phoenix will play two of these three teams - Georgia Tech, Arkansas and Stanford

My money is on Stanford and Georgia Tech in the NIT. If they do play Georgia Tech then going over to Savannah State would make a solid trip for fans. ETSU isn't that far from Atlanta for that matter.
SIUE isn't a sexy game but it is interesting with the Jon Harris connection and two teams that are starting new regimes. I am happy that game is on the road as I don't think SIUE would draw that well especially this year.

FSC is opening with DUKE (this is a confirmed, traditional DI champion vs. DII champion exhibition game). I also understand that SYRACUSE will also be on the schedule as an exhibition, but I do not have a confirmation on that one. Ya wanna trade?

So looks like another matchup wth Minnesota-Duluth. With an extra horizon league home game I hope it's the only non d1 matchup but wouldn't shock me if there is another one.

Minnesota-Duluth: a good chance to get ramped up and see everybody get some court time.
I need a game fit into the schedule somewhere in the southern half of Florida so I can attend! Tampa, Orlando or further south I'll be there!
