So this is not what most of us were expecting. For one this makes absolutely ZERO sense because they just said they were going to wait through the weekend for second interviews. Thoughts anyone? This is a step in the wrong direction if you ask me

He just won a national title in D-II and has been successful for over a decade. He's not just some random.
Shooting the J, time for you to fire up the spin machine.

Per Dave Kaplan, Linc Darner will be named the next head coach of the Green Bay Phoenix. He won the D2 NCAA National Championship this season at Florida Southern. He is originally a midwestern coach known for high scoring offenses. Linc Daner's Bio from before this season.

I hope people don't just jump on board because he's the new coach. Let's think critically about this guy before we say he's a great hire. He could certainly bring success but he could also reaffirm my suspicions too. Just didn't seem like a fit to me, even if he's has success elsewhere.

Former Phoenix players Seth Evans and Daniel Turner finished their careers playing for Darner. Evans was hired as an assistant coach at Florida's Southern in September.

I don't know a lot about him but I like his resume. National championship, national coach of the year. 8 tournament appearances in 9 years. I can get behind that.
I think the Wisconsin law that state job postings must be listed for 2 weeks before someone can be hired is what dragged this process out.

How dominant was Darner's Florida Southern Team this year? Answer: They averaged 88 PPG, while giving up just 74 PPG. Those are awe-striking numbers.

This looks like a strong hire. His resume is clearly the most impressive of the known candidates. Southern Florida is a small Methodist school, in landlocked Lakeland.
Let me be the first to say I hope this is the missing Linc in returning GB to the NCAA Tournament. I apologize but I had to say it. ;-)

T his is a step in the wrong direction if you ask meNobody is asking you. Makes perfect sense! He won a national championship at the D2 level, former B10 player at Purdue under Mean Gene Keedy as well as two time captain, and has tons of wins at the D2 level. Resume speaks for itself while at Florida Southern: "Linc Darner has already led the Moccasins to five Sunshine State Conference regular season titles, five SSC Tournament titles and seven consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and seven straight 20-plus win seasons. During his first eight years at Florida Southern, Darner has put together a 182-71 record on the Moccasin bench." I have a hard time understanding your perspective on this whole thing. You obviously wanted Coach GG who has less overall wins at a lower level, no ships (Darner has one at a higher level) and has won WAY more in March (most people care about on this board). Anyways, if this is true, I am totally happy with the hire. Diener and Wolf would have been solid but Wolf must have dropped out.

In the big picture we picked up a successful D2 head coach who just won a national title. Sounds like a solid hire for a mid major program. I'm sure he isn't Bruce Pearl but a similar background before making the jump to D1. Lets see who he can bring in and how he is in the community before ill make a judgment.

He sounds great now let's hit the road running on keeping some good players and recruits. Let's see who's going to be the Asst. Coaches and go from there. A new era has started!

Don't jump the gun and say he's a great hire yet, he hasn't even put the pen to paper. He could be great or not so great, we will have to see I'm sure there's a reason for it but it seems unprofessional to not even tell the other candidates they weren't getting the job, not to mention they literally said yesterday that they were doing second interviews. I'd be jilted if I were any of the guys that didn't get the job and had to find out through the media.

The guy has as strong of resume as any of the candidates, and has more post season success than really any of them.

I have no ulterior motive nor am I connected to any of the candidates in any way. I'm just in favor of professionalism. No personal feelings of mine are hurt, just kind of a weird way to go about the hiring process.
