If true I like it. It's true, and a huge get. He received an Oregon State offer last week. Scoring machine, a pure shot maker.

Finally some good......no GREAT news around here! Welcome to the Phoenix family Jerrelle! What a great addition! This is a huge addition welcome Jerrelle. On page 3 of this thread Shooting the J posted a link to a great article on Jerrelle. It looks to me that even though he's listed as a SG he can play the point. Quick shot off the dribble and a really hard worker. A real slasher and loves to drive to the basket. It looks to me that we're getting bigger in the backcourt with Guards who can shoot, dribble and drive to the basket and are 6'4" combo's. Hard to over play one guard when you have 2 on the floor like this.

I love his size for a HL guard and in every video I watch I love his shot creating and making ability. In comparison to the Tre Harris video, DeBerry was creating his own shots where Harris was waiting for the ball to be passed to him in an open position. Harris seemed like a bigger version of Stefan while DeBerry seems like he is on a different level of being a scorer than those guys. I am very excited by this news. It feels like it came out of nowhere. Other than GB offering another guy at his position there seemed like no reason to verbal at this time.
I also love that he is from Milwaukee. In the middle of the Wardle situation we land a major recruit out of uwm's backyard!!

A question about oral commitments? I know players can change there minds. Vander Blue comes to mind. But is there anything that prevents other schools from continuing to recruit?

Here's an excellent article from the Milwaukee JS on the Deberry commitment: Destiny's Jerrelle Deberry commits to play hoops at Green BayInteresting to read what an asset Carrington Love was in the recruitment of "Mr. Go Hard". Love is looked up to by many young ballplayers in his city because of his work ethic.

Interesting potential for Deberry. The Fact that Nix freshman, Carrington Love talked up the school and coaching staff seems to have been the deciding factor.

I can't say for sure but based on what I have read it looks like there is no rule against it since verbal commitments are non binding from both the player and the school. However, I do get the impression that it is an unwritten rule among coaches that they don't recruit kids who have given a verbal. The coaches probably assume that for every player they get, they are likely to have one poached from them. Plus they are likely to get a bad reputation in the coaching circle. I could be off on these comments. I would guess pantheru or big dwsu would know for sure.

Once declared College coaches usually contact H.S. Coach to see if the recruit might be interested in another school. That way recruit isn't getting calls and texts continuously. Which can be a big distraction.

Just some house keeping notes. I had asked about Paul Jesperson and Akeem Springs. Jesperson committed to Northern Iowa. I think he will do well in their system. Akeem Springs committed to uwm. I understand he started the season stong and then fell out of favor for Northern Illinois.

He's undervalued nationally because of playing for a small school. There's uncertainty if he can put up numbers like he is now once he gets to D1 basketball. I think he will surprise the national experts. We'll see. He clearly wants D1 ball with a smaller school atmosphere.
