I know some of you probably have SNC winning, I'm taking GB by a boatload.
The Wicks era is here, let's go!

Well I wasn’t able to watch the game and I’m just going off score updates, so I’m assuming St Norbert has a roster full of extremely athletic players and they’re going run the table and easily win the D3 national title. And if that’s the case I’d say this is a solid win. For anyone that attended, please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

This is exactly the type of team that could give a new coach and young team fits. And they did. We knew this was going to be a work in progress.

I listened to the second half on radio. The injuries are tough I think Will injured in first 3 minutes? Cc and Preston and rich are injured? Antshak a beast foster a 3 point shooter.

I had said I thought Noah, CC, and Rich could carry them, and 2 of the 3 were out tonight. Good to escape with a win while building experience.

The Phoenix let Nubbies back into the game in the last minute, but held on for a solid win, 65-63. I believe we missed 4 FTs in the last 15 seconds that could have iced the game, but I’m expecting that they be shooting a lot more of those in every practice. St. Nubs had a chance to win in the last seconds, but a three attempt clanked off the rim. Foster can shoot from outside, Noah can drive to the hoop, and they all play really hard - but there will be growing pains. Much more energy, athleticism, and talent than we’ve seen in the past couple of years. I love how Sunny coaches up the players as they come out of the game - so rare, but effective to see in the game nowadays.

It's hard to know what roles guys will play this early, but I expected Cummings, Ruedinger, Eames, and maybe Byhre to play significant ones this year. Only Eames played at all, and he was hurt early, providing a built in asterisk. Still, they should not be playing a two point game against a D3 team, even a good one. I'm still taking a glass half full view. There was definitely more fire in the team and more energy from the sidelines than we ever saw last year, and there were individual contributions to be encouraged by.
The good: Energy. Hustle. Effort. They outrebounded St. Norbert's 40-30, as they should have, but I still give credit for actually doing it. Reynolds settled down after a rough start and showed his ability to penetrate and create. Wonders can shoot. After years of bricked open threes, he should be a pleasant change. I love Antchak's physicality. Jones clearly has some athleticism. Hall made some shots and had a key rebound down the stretch. Douglas made a couple of big threes.
The bad: Free throws, free throws, free throws. 42% from the line made this closer than it should have been. The rotation - More Wonders and Antchak, less Wade and Jedkins. Wade had a rough night. Jedkins played really hard and showed athletic flashes, but he got muscled badly by a D3 team. He's going to struggle against bigger, stronger opponents. Finishing - They had a lot of good looks they couldn't convert, and seemed to lose the ball easily on penetrations with mild defensive pressure. It looked like the Packers receivers on contested catches.
Overall, I can imagine a solid lineup with the additions of tonight's missing guys, and that's what I'm going to do for now...One guy's way too early take.

CC3 (DNP) Rich (DNP), Preston (DNP), Will Eames (got hurt within 3 minutes), and Noah Reynolds (kept cramping up) did not finish the game. Even Elijah Jones was in and out a lot because of cramping up as well.
If we hit our free throws this game isnt close at the end. St. Norbert also hit a few garbage time threes.
Notes:
-Foster Wonders can flat out shoot, haven’t had a shooter like him in Green Bay since …..
- DD3 is an exciting player to watch. Very raw but isnt afraid to get to the hoop and let it fly from deep. Will be one to watch this year, confidence will only go up for this kid.
- Marcus Hall is a Swiss Army knife type of player. I didn’t realize he had an outside shot but last night he seemed very comfortable shooting from downtown. I think it comes from experience but I doubt he misses free throws late in the game after last night.
All in all, this was a fun game to watch. At one point towards the end we had three true freshman on the floor going up against a senior heavy team of St Norbert. Results don’t matter at this stage, you learn from what happened and move on.

“Garbage time threes?” There was a “garbage time” in a game when the opponent had a shot to win at the end? L

St. Norbert is senior heavy? All three of them? Including one who didn't play.
Again I do think UWGB will be decent this year. Definitely will not finish 10th or 11th as some are predicting. More athleticism, more strength and more juice than a year ago - not that improvement in those areas was a high bar to jump over.
