Back to back game days. This isn't the NBA, a preseason tournament or the conference tournament. Wait, I'm confused. To steal from a local legend, "what the hell's going on out here?"
GB returns to "Rodgers" Park (yes I misspelled it, I just assume AR12 owns that part of Chicago too) at 7pm to visit an old friend, the Loyola Ramblers. A lot has changed since 2/2/13 when these two teams last played. To summarize it best, GB leads the all time series 26-15 and yet is now getting paid to travel to Loyola because the Ramblers think it will be an easy win. Please note that shift happened long before anything we have seen on the court recently. GB doesn't need a 100 year old nun to turn the trajectory of the program around, just some money and conviction.
Back to the task at hand. Loyola runs similar offensive actions to GB. They haven't had a great start to their season either. They don't have a ton of experience. Loyola's pace is glacial. This feels like the kind of game that GB can have a good showing in. For those that like action please gamble responsibly.
No word on Brock, Jack or Brayden. Playing back to back it would be nice to have some depth.
Regardless of how anyone feels about the opponent yesterday I'd have to imagine the guys feel a weight was lifted. That can only help as they play a few games in the next week that are winnable.

KenPom 358 at 140. Loyola is a 19-point favorite with a total of 127.5. That's a high spread with a low total.

Loyola does have 2 seniors and 1 junior that have started all 8 of their games. One of those seniors is 6' 8" guy named Tom Welch who on the season has shot 30 of 33 from the field. That must not be enough attempts over 8 games to make the NCAA stats page though, because he's not listed on there. Loyola has a bad case of turnover-itis - they average 18.8 turnovers per game Loyola's disappointing start to the season is reflected in their against the spread record of 1-7. We have a better ATS record at 2-6, whoo-hoo!!!!!! That 19 point spread does feel like a lot. The home court premium must be significant - remember we got 27 at Wisconsin. Sometimes on these big spreads, the team in the lead lets off the gas so I don't have conviction to take either side of this one for this game. I'm hoping the game is on ESPN Plus? Our official schedule page does not show the ESPN+ logo, but I looked up ESPN's schedule and it does show up on there, so hopefully that's correct. www.espn.com/watch/schedule/_/type/upcoming/channel/ESPN_PLUS

A W is a W and where we are at as a program, you take it and move on. In this unprecedented back to back regular season scheduling, lets carry the momentum on from yesterday and see if we can get two in a row against Loyola tonight.
I've been saying since the Georgetown game Blake needs to be in the starting lineup. Yesterday he was because Brock was unavailable, but he again showed yesterday he should be starting over Jenkins even when everyone is back healthy. It's a no brainer. Speaking of health, I don't know why Brock and Rose were out yesterday, but I do hope one or both are back for some added depth if we do get tired legs tonight. Lastly, I've also been saying since Georgetown that Short needs to play more. I feel like we continue to see flashes from him and he has to be getting more comfortable. Let the kid play.

I’m guessing it might be blacked out for them. That’s my hope at least, could be wrong.

Pretty wild that 10 years ago, GB beat Loyola twice in Horizon League play fairly easily. Crazy the path both teams have gone since, with Loyola working their way up to the A10 and GB currently in the bottom 5 in the country.
As for this years match up, I certainly don’t expect a win, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they covered the 19 point spread. This doesn’t appear to be the Loyola team of the past 5 years, with a couple of 20 point losses and only one double digit win. The big question for me is how GB deals with playing two games in two days. If they come out looking tired and uninspired, this could be an ugly 25 point loss. If they look energetic and excited after getting their first win of the season, they might be able to keep it within 10-15 points. That being said, this team hasn’t given me much hope that this will be a competitive game, so my prediction is 78-60 Loyola. Go Phoenix!

Anyone having difficulties with the ESPN plus stream? I keep getting a message saying "the event has not started yet," but the gamecast feature works, just no video.

It’s gotta be close to be time to move Nate Jenkins back to his role last year. Have him come off the bench, he succeeded in that spot last year.

As if that wasn't apparent after the two exhibition games. I'm all for having a floor-general type guy that doesn't necessarily stuff the stat sheet, but he doesn't even seem to be commanding the offense in an effective way.
