They started out taking away some of the UVU plays. Unfortunately in some cases UVU responded by making some tough bail out shots. That was too much for this team at this point to handle.
When the team is 0-4 coming in and not able to string together 40 minutes of basketball I would say they are on the edge of "oh sh*t, here we go again" at any moment. That boils over in many forms for the players and coaches alike. I can only imagine the culture around the team needs a reset, especially after so many days in a row together.
Hopefully between now and Saturday they can clear the air and start to rebuild the foundation and connection the team was built on. I put this challenge on Coach Ryan. He said in an interview they want to be demanding without being demeaning as coaches. To effectively implement that he has to make sure everyone is in a good mental place and that "here we go again" feeling isn't in the back of everyone's mind.
Also, to the point about shooting. I said it in another thread and I will put here again. Some guys we have seen enough of to know what we have. I'd say give me some young dudes or Wade and lets see what we have there. They are losing by 20+ points per game as is. How much worse could it really get?

I'll admit I was a huge homer and thought going 1-1 was realistic this past weekend and was even delusional enough to think that 2-0 was attainable. Talk about a reality check.
It's now pretty obvious to me that GB is one of the worst teams in the entire country for the second year in a row. It's pretty remarkable how far the program has fallen. This was a top 100-200 program for most of the past 20 years, to be up in the 350+ range now two years in a row is completely unacceptable. They haven't even really threatened to win in any of their 5 games so far this season.
Thankfully the IUPUI game is an 11:00 AM tip on a Monday to shield as many people as possible from seeing it, that game might set basketball back 100 years.
I'm not giving up on the team, it's too early in the season for that. But we really need to start seeing some kind of improvement and fast.

Tonight was hard to watch. I really have no idea what they're trying to do on offense, and it looks like the players don't either. The poster above's comment about not winning a game seems facetious, but is it? They're not even remotely competitive. Nothing facetious about it. Have they done anything that even vaguely resembles winning basketball at any level? This is a middle of the pack WIAC team right now, without hyperbole or exaggeration. We’ve now seen seven games of this team and it has been the exact same product each game out, both from a coaching and execution standpoint.

The 2nd half of the game we were shooting at the basket toward the right-hand side of the TV screen and you could see our bench clearly in the background. On more than one occasion, after a made basket, only a handful of our bench guys would even clap. Nate Jenkins stat line is like 30 minutes played (highest on team), 1 of 3 shooting for 2 points, 3 turnovers and 2 assists. He rarely looks to shoot, so no need to guard him. Offense is slow, deliberate and sort of purpose-less, we run sort of a zombie-like weave that seems suited for when you want to run out the clock. Ziegler couldn't hit a barn door yesterday, but at least he moves quicker than watching paint dry. I don't know what that press was late in the game, other than just for some practice? We do seem to LOVE the 4 guard lineup, but I don't know why - through 4 games on the NCAA stats page we are 349 out of 352 in the nation in rebounding margin average at minus 11. We shot 46% from FT line. Yes, we should be grateful for the opportunity to play IUPUI twice each year One other thought - Donovan Short - one of the most highly-regarded recruits in program history (as has been said on this board) is getting 5 - 7 minutes per game. "Player Development" ?? Let's get him in the damn game. This isn't like having Aaron Rodgers sit behind Brett Favre for several years.

Here’s a question…..Could this years team have the worst wins record in school history (currently at 4-24 which was Dick Lien’s last season at GB)? At this pace, they could.

Good to see UMKC just took down Toledo, so theres another game that we might have had a chance in, that we can just chalk up as a loss.

Might even get him to autograph it along with a heartfelt "Thank you"

Blayton Williams transfered December 20,2021. Maybe due to more juco players this year no will transfer this year? And guys are more committed to program and if no transfers this season that would definitely be a positive sign. A lot players transferred after the season. It doesn’t really matter if they transfer during or after the season.

The transfers are a problem with the shear volume the last two years. However, if people transfer that just are not any good it really is not an issue. Hell, most of the time i would rather see some of the guys transfer so they don't hold a roster spot while not being able to contribute.

I was mentioning it for the date. Not the player donovan ivory also was dissmissed from the team early last season. Some d1 players have transfered this season. Take Shaun Williams from uic who uwgb plays on Saturday. Former top point guard prospect didn’t play in uic first three games. Maybe no one transfers during this season which would be great. One this I don’t think anyone has mentioned last season is the people missing games due to covid. Which hurt the Phoenix last season. Hopefully no get sick or gets covid or gets hurt.

No one is saying anyone will transfer during this season. There would be some light at the end of the tunnel. Even if some some players transfer after the season at least. There is some chemistry growing then you get the some talented freshman hall, klesmit, and wrecke. Playing with seven guys or playing with 13 guys we can’t lose Brock Heffner, donovan short, Cade Meyer, Zae Blake those guys make a difference and would make difference in the future. Some of the guys could transfer and wouldn’t make much of difference.

Ivory was a guy that could put pressure on the opposing defense even when he went through stretches with some less than desirable results.
The team has been getting it's butt kicked routinely without a guy that commands some respect as a shooter and play maker from the perimeter.
Ivory had swagger even in down games. Right now several of the guys that play either don't command respect or only play with swagger when things are going well.
I am hopeful we have some guys come forward on this team with higher ceilings and balls of steel for the full 40 minutes.

Brock Heffner the mullet his length his energy. He may not be a stat sheet stuffer. But when your setting screens and not caring about scoring buckets. Brock Heffner is a redshirt freshman so would be his second season at hawaii. People on here talk about the ceiling about donovan short. Maybe Brock doesn’t have the offense ceiling as Donovan but if after one season cade was getting all horizon possibilities I’m sure Brock could be two.
