Wednesday 11/25, 6:00 PM Video: BTN+ [ Stream] / Radio: WDUZ [ Stream] Finally, a game to talk about. I'm a little bummed there's no TV for this one but it's still great to have hoops back. After a long, turbulent offseason with a coaching change and roster turnover it will be really interesting to see what the new look Phoenix bring to the table. I think we're pretty certain to see a lot of minutes from the guard trio of Pipes / Jefferson / Davis but after that it's kind of an unknown. I think the biggest question marks going into the season are: -All of GB's post players are unproven, who will step up and provide some production? -Who will be the guards coming off the bench to provide some depth when the top 3 need a breather? -How smooth is the transition going from a run-and-gun top 10 tempo team to a more traditional swing offense? -After watching inefficient defense and constantly getting hammered on the glass the past few years, how much can that improve in one off-season with an abbreviated summer practice schedule? Obviously it's tough to open the season against two Big Ten opponents to get a true gauge for how these questions might be answered going forward but those are just a couple of things I'm interested to see. It's just great to have college hoops (potentially, barring any COVID positives) on the horizon again. Go Phoenix.

The defense is going to be different and because of that more efficient. In the old defense there were lots of times guys got spread out trying to force turnovers. This created some driving lanes and if rotations weren't good easy buckets. I think going forward we are going to see guys more tightly grouped together in the middle. I think you will see guys closing out shooters under control and not trying to get steals as players go into their shooting motion. I think we are going to see almost entirely man to man defense, no tricks just playing hard man to man defense. In conjunction with controlling tempo they will improve defensive efficiency as they wear teams down.
From what has been reported about injuries and waivers it appears GB is rolling with 10ish scholarship players. The walk on guys might be called upon more than we would normally think.
In many things in life humans have to see something work before they can believe it will work. I think that is true of the front court and a big reason GB is getting little buzz around the league despite having a great guard group. In Kellogg, Paris, Thompson, Claflin and Cem you have zero D1 games played. Yet I can guarantee some of those guys are going to play and contribute to the team. I also think that who plays will change as the year goes on because all of those guys are growing into D1. Minnesota has lots of size so I am not sure this will be a fair indicator of the competitiveness of that group but they aren't going to get totally shut out. Guys will get boards and buckets. Eventually we will find out if they are 80%, 90%, 100% or 100%+ of a what a good Horizon League frontcourt is. My opinion is they are going to be better than expected in league play.

Looking forward to seeing (hearing) the different lineups that Coach Ryan puts on the floor tonight. In all reality, it is going to be tough to win any of these road games before conference but seeing the guys grow and play the way coach is looking for them to play will be big.
On a side note, hopefully we do not get ran out of the gym like Oakland did today vs Xavier- 101-49!

So nice to have basketball back. I am so looking forward to games.
Today Tank Hemphill played well for Drake scoring 10 points in an upset victory over Kansas State.
Also a tight game going on between two former Green Bay coaches Toledo at Bradley.

There were plenty of teams we got run off the court by random major conference schools in the Linc era.

I am not sure what Will said to them at halftime, but wow. This is a completely different team.

Better second half but reminded me of a Linc team. Get down big get to within striking distance then still end up losing by 20.
I just hope they give Wisconsin a good game on Tuesday. I’ll take a single digit loss as a win at this point. Cant have first halves like that rest of season. That reeked of Linc.
