Free throw shooting was very good. That is a plus, I believe 3 pt shooting was poor but same for Minn. So that is also a plus(I think we gave up a high % of 3 pointers last year). Turnovers and rebounds not good, but what do you expect against a decent big ten team going against a team with a new coach.

Better second half but reminded me of a Linc team. Get down big get to within striking distance then still end up losing by 20. I just hope they give Wisconsin a good game on Tuesday. I’ll take a single digit loss as a win at this point. Cant have first halves like that rest of season. That reeked of Linc. It's probably going to take more than a week and a half to teach a defensive system. Finally having some tape to work off of will do wonders.

Get over it and come up with something better.

I hope they can play a complete game and keep it within 20 tbh. Expected a slow start given no exhibition games with a new team and staff but yuck. Glad to see the guys get into a rhythm in the second half and saw what the Davis/Jefferson/Pipes three man scoring option look like.

I am not disappointed in the result actually. Based on the size and experience advantage Minnesota had this was about what I expected.
Jefferson and Kellogg were rusty to start. The both committed turnovers and fouls at the start that they are not likely to be committing by conference play. Even by the second half they cleaned things up and looked like competent mid major players. A better start for these guys goes a long way towards a better game.
Three of the freshmen had games that looked like first games of a freshman. Thompson took 3 shots, all from the perimeter. While he did knock one down he is the biggest guy on the team and needs to work inside more in the future. Also, he turned the ball over on 2 of the first 4 or 5 times he touched it. Jacob had a nice half court drive for a hoop but also turned it over 2 of the next 4 or so times he touched it. Damontae had the roughest game, he turned it over the first 2 times he touched it. He had a weird moment on d when he could have helped on a Carr hoop but just stopped in the lane in no mans land. His only shot hit the side of the backboard after pump faking. I am not worried about any of this, I feel it was young guys doing young guy things.
While on the topic of new guys Kirciman looked the most poised of the true freshmen. He wasn't coughing the ball up and didn't do much that was outside of his skill set. That makes sense given his international game experience.
On defense I thought Paris did the best of the big guys. He was moving around and covering up the backside fairly well. A few times though he couldn't get the board to close things out and then Minnesota had easy second chances. The bright side for Paris was that he is a pretty good offensive clean up man. Five of his seven rebounds were offensive and he converted three of them into buckets for himself. I was kind of expecting him to be more athletic looking but that could just be the size factor of Minnesota. Paris is slightly smaller than Nelson of NKU or Bramah of RMU but I'd love to see him have the mentality that he can go get every rebound and put it right back up like those guys do.
Speaking of size, not counting anything from Amari who normally goes up against big guys, GB had 7 shots from the rest of the team that Minnesota either altered, blocked or caused a travel. I don't see that happening in HL play but that was a factor in this loss.
Stieber has an offensive game that would make Luke Kiss or Kevin Olm look like an all conference player yet he totally earned his 17 minutes. He was smart, pesky and a leader out there. He just made an overall positive impact. Good for him and keep it up.
Several times Amari was matched up on Carr and was very active trying to defend him. Good for Amari, I though his defense was much better than last year. Also, I thought Amari got a lot of Amari type looks that didn't fall. He will be a force again in league play.
With 8 minutes left GB had the lead down to 10. Unfortunately that agitated Marcus Carr and he put the game away. What was frustrating is the GB transition D didn't really stop him on several drives. Guys didn't get a wall up or seem to know what to do. If you give a guy like that those kind of opportunities you will pay and GB did.
As shooting the j said they have film now. That is great. They had a bunch of rusty and new guys make a bunch of really bad mistakes in the first half. I highly doubt that will happen all year as they practice and work on things. This game wasn't good but it was good for them. Unfortunately it doesn't get any easier for GB on Tuesday.
