Next year, it's tough to know what to expect without Alec Brown, but I think this team is a Horizon title contender if they stay a bit healthier than they did this year.
1) Kiefer Sykes. Improve that 3 pt. shooting pct. to something closer to .400 and he'll repeat as player of year. 2) Greg Mays. Tremendous development in this guy, he's a solid #2 option. Work on some strong post moves and he might get somewhere in that 13-15 ppg. range. 3) Alphonso McKinnie. Stay healthy, and it is critical he does. I love his shooting stroke and he needs to play a much bigger role next year as starter or 6th man. If he has injury issues again, it will be almost impossible for next year's team to overcome. 4) Jordan Fouse. Get stronger. Get stronger physically, tighten the ball handling, develop some post up moves and work on a 10-12 ft. jump shot. Good player but he has to take a step or 2 offensively next year like Mays did this year. 5) Carrington Love. Also needs to get 3 pt. pct. closer to .400 and get stronger. Doesn't have to be great but needs to step up when left open as guys like Sykes are given the defensive attention. 6) Ken Lowe. Good potential here. Just work on getting stronger and get some strong moves down low and he can be a solid starter or 6th man. 7) Tevin Findlay. Once again, get stronger and find some sort of jump shot. Even a 12-15 ft. jump shot would help.
I'm not sure what to make of the rest of the guys and I don't expect tons from the newcomers. One or 2 guys will need to emerge to help the above 7.
Next year can be a very good year. Guys will have to work their butts off in the off-season to improve, but I certainly think this team can fight for the top spot. Need to be a little more healthy than they were this year for that to happen.

I guess I will put this here. I will be curious to see what happens with Coach Wardle. Obviously the team had a great year and guys have showed a lot of individual development. With the way the season ended I can't see the athletic department reaching too deep into the bank for a new contract. A month ago I would have thought he would get 400k per year for 4 years or something like that. I am not sure I see GB needing to reach that deep as of now. Then again there are tons of jobs opening around the country. Not many in the upper midwest that are better situations for him but you never is some conference usa school comes along with a decent offer out of nowhere what will happen.

The Nix have two quick perimeter players coming in that should help on defense. (one is a muscular point guard) Whether it's Wardle or the assistant I've seen solid development of the players shooting ability. McKinnie was basically a slasher when he arrived. Mays was an around the basket guy and Sykes was a quick slasher. I'm hoping Fouse develops a shot. It would be nice if the Nix could bring in a player like Creighton's Ethan Wragge, a stretch five with a deadly outside shot.
Wardle's got a nice group of assistants and the team would have a outstanding continuity if something changed. That said I don't expect anything to change on that front.
On a different note -- Toledo lost to Southern Mississippi in the NIT last night. The two players Kolwalczyk bought with him from Green Bay saw action. Rian Pierson is a starter and had an outstanding game. (still basically a slasher with a non-stop motor) Matt Smith only saw three minutes of playing time. It looks like he never developed like the coaches hoped he would. He did start after sitting out a year but PT went down drastically after that.

As of now, Green Bay returns the 2nd highest percentage of production in the conference from far and away the conferences best team. Theyre in terrific position for next season.
Continued player development will be key, and with the work ethic on this team that should be expected. The staff developed Brown, McKinnie, and even Mays into 3 point shooters. Now they need the guards to make the next step. The recruiting class isn't finished yet either.

I always hate to see the mid major coaches move so here is hoping yours stays.

I know for sure we owe Fairfield a game at their place. I think Drake owes us a home game from last year's bracketbuster game. Other than that, I'm pretty sure all deals are completed. I'm guessing we will get something done renewing the UW series, so count that as a road game. Something I don't think was ever mentioned on the message board is that we were invited to the Gulf Coast Showcase next year. gcs.bdglobalsports.com/?page_id=10 Looks like a nice tournament where we should get three solid games. Looks like there is a lot of work to be done on the scheduling front. I agree, the ND State 4 year series was awesome. Would love to renew that.

I too will be disappointed if we lose Coach Wardle. But we have to look ahead because we all new he would move up sooner or later. I think there's many good Coach's on our team to take over. We have the Players to make a better run next year if healthy. That is the key because I thought be had depth this year which was a mistake. The 2 games Alec and Keifer didn't play and the one Keifer played on 1 leg showed we need more depth. I'm still looking forward to next year after a way to short post season.

I would not be surprised to lose Wardle, but I do not think it will be to Marquette. Had they made the NCAA and made some noise, perhaps, but not the way the season ended. There likely will be other opportunities for more money that may present themselves. I can't help but think there may be some feelings that Wardle should not have been subjected to the investigation this past year and may jump at an opportunity to leave.
Assuming we do not lose Wardle to anyone. Could this open up the possibility of Sandy Cohen staying closer to home?
Luke Fischer?

Cohen has said that he wanted to play at Marquette since he was a kid. I think it's a situation where he wants to play for MU more than Buzz, so unless something dramatic happens I can't see him commitment changing. I'm not sure on the rules, but I believe Fischer has already enrolled at Marquette and is just waiting until the middle of next year to become eligible. I can't see him transferring again, and I can't see any coach thumbing there nose at a highly ranked big man.

Stumbled upon this website the other day. I thought it was kind of cool to look at some of the advanced stats and per 40 minute stats that you don't get to see in box scores. So I figured I'd share it. Also, interesting to look and compare with other teams throughout the Horizon league. Although, it was a disappointing ending to the season, I'd like to thank Alec Brown for the quality years he put in for the program, he advanced our program a tremendous amount which is the goal of all programs, to get better, I wish him the best. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/green-bay/2014.html
