Here's game previews by Rob Demovsky and Andrew Gavin.Let's get a win with a big contingent of fans here to see our product. A win puts the Phoenix in position to finish with a winning record. Green Bay has won 7 of its last 9, outscoring its opponents by 41 over that span. GB has the conferences longest win streak at 4. Also, it's way past overdo that The Horizon League dumps its senseless tie-breaker system. Everyone plays the same conference schedule, so when teams finished tied, there is no more relevant info that can be gleamed from conference game. Out of conference RPI should be the one and only tie-breaker.

I apologize in advance. I have been all over the country to see phoenix hoops but I have attended very few wins. I am on my to UIC to take in the game and do a little shopping in Chicago. So hopefully today is different and GB gets a break and they get the 6th seed. If not I just don't want to go on the road to YSU or UDM. That isn't too say I think uwm is an easy road win just that is the game that they played the best in on the road.

Green Bay wins 71-63. Huge games from the Chicago kids. Kiefer Sykes is the next Norris Cole. Phoenix are now 15-14, and have won 8 of 10.

Congrats on the win guys.
There are a few teams heading into the HLT hot but you guys may just be the hottest.
The tourney is so wide open this year that I can't wait for it to start Tuesday!

Thanks for the kind words. It will be tough for us starting out on the road. The HL tie-breaker system is broken. Hoping we can get to the neutral court games and make some noise.

Milwaukee had a big lead early versus Loyola, but the Ramblers are now within 2. If Milwaukee loses, Green Bay visits Milwaukee. If Milwaukee wins, GB visits Youngstown State. Here's Rob Demovsky's Green Bay gameblog. Fun to read after a nice win.

That was pretty fun to watch.
There's definitely some good things to build on for this team. I think for them to take another step they need another guard to step up strong. Sykes is a very good young player and Cerroni has his moments against teams where they can spring him open. A third guy emerging would really help.
Greg Mays is a bit raw, but he really looks like he's got some fine tools to work with. He and Brown could be a nice duo down low as upperclassmen. They're already pretty decent as youngsters.

I agree, and not just 1, but 2 wing players need to emerge. Lots of options for that. I think Aaron Armstead will be greatly improved after an off-season of lifting and shooting. I really like his length and court vision. He simply needs to improve his FG% to earn a major role. Cole Stefan, should he prove healthy, could be a huge addition. at 6'4", he has enough size to play the 3 position along with the 2. Putting 2 shooters on the floor like him and KC would really open up the driving lanes for Sykes. I don't like to rely on freshman, but Jordan Fouse is a very talented, versatile player who should contribute right away. The team still has either a scholarship available that they'll likely use on a PG, or Jarvis Williams will return as a medical red-shirt. I think I prefer the latter option as I don't see any high quality PG options available to us right now. That might change when the coaching carousel starts spinning at other schools.

I really don't feel like Armstead is that far away from being a major player for GB. He still needs to learn to finish but he is starting to get a lot more aggressive out there. I feel like it is a process but he is making steps just by being able to start to look for his shot and start to make plays off the bounce.
For that matter Greg Mays is on the cusp as well. The way he rebounds and plays above the rim is impressive. Now he is just starting to show he can finish in traffic and create some room with his body.
I still believe Terry Johnson can be a serviceable backup point guard. I think I would rather have Terry at the point and keep Jarvis another year.
Also, it was really cool to see Clayton get some clock and make a few plays. I was at the game and the coaching staff and players were going crazy with excitement everytime he did something. He looked much more useful in those 4 minutes than he has in 2 previous seasons.
