Listened to the Maino and Nick show while driving home this morning. They talked mostly about the big win last night but also talked a little about recruiting and the league.
Said they were after several foreign players. I know there has been some offers to a couple but wonder if there are others? Also commented that there are several teams interested in joining the league. I know Chicago State has been mentioned. Anyone heard any rumors?

I think Northern Kentucky wants to join. That would be the Cincinnati market, in Covington, Kentucky. It's just across the Ohio River. Also think IUPUI would kill to get in.

Well NKU would seem a natural with Ken Bothof as the AD (negative I think they're only in 2nd year of D1). Also Chicago State fills a need and plays teams all over the Country so less traveling for them (negative low sport budget and facilities). I still think adding 3 teams and having 2 divisions would be great. Home and away in your division and alternating years home and away with the other division. It would be great for exposure for the HL.

I think IUPUI would be a bad add honestly. Same with Chicago State. I kind of like Northern Kentucky tho. i know they are only in their second D1 season but i feel like they are only going up from here.

You have to look at travel costs for all sports when you consider additions to the Horizon League. What fits in the league's footprint or is close? I prefer schools that are in a metro area. Chicago is an important market. Cincinnati area is another. Indianapolis? Yep. Kowalczyk always thought Evansville should move to the Horizon League. Frankly, Northern Illinois should consider a move back. Fort Wayne anyone? The location is in the middle of the league's footprint. Nebraska-Omaha and Denver would like to join but are they too far away?

I think nebraska-omaha wouldnt be horrible if we had more than one team in iowa/missouri. But you are right. They have no travel partners and every trip for them would be a long one in comparison to the rest of the league. I wouldnt mind evansville or IUPUI if they improved our league in some aspects other than location. I think that facilities and a history of good athletics teams as well as location need to be what we look at when adding. No need to add unless it improves the conference.

Chicago St has an outstanding, brand new 7,000 seat arena. Their basketball product is improving. Most important, the exposure in Chicago helps the rest of the Horizon League recruit Chicago. I'd rather have them as the 10th member of the conference than continue playing multiple D2 teams.

Because yeah non-D1 games aren't beneficial, but they don't hurt RPI at all either. Would Chicago State, based on this year, help or hurt our Conference RPI. Because i think that is the most important thing: Moving our conference up so that we get better seeding in the big dance and possible at large bids.
