I am planning to make the trip down on Tuesday. I did see CSU on tv a few times this year. I would say they are poor mans EMU. They trapped a lot and played zone. They are fiesty and play hard. In some games that helps and others it causes them to take bad quick shots, turnovers and a lot of fouling. I will be curious to see how GB responds on the road.

Green Bay (11-3) @ Chicago St. (6-8) When: Tuesday, 1/7/14, 7:00 Where: Jones Convocation Center, Chicago Media: ??
Chicago St is coming off a road conference victory in Idaho. They also took Depaul to overtime, before eventually falling. They are undefeated on their home floor this year, but the best victory is against a struggling Southern Illinois team.
Getting a few minutes a game off their bench is former Phoenix walk-on Jared Dimakos. Dimakos left GB to take a scholarship at a JuCo. After 1 year, he had a few D1 offers, including Grand Canyon and Chicago St. Good for him, seemed like a good guy and I'm happy he's doing well. We were excited when he walked om here, and he seems to have developed the potential we saw. He'll likely start next year, as they're loaded with seniors this year.

Chicago State is not the cupcake they used to be. They have 8 seniors on the team, they've forced double digit turnover for 38 straight games and are averaging 7 steals this year. They also are 5-0 at home this season. But I hope our winning sreak will continue. Hopefully when GB returns for our home games it is still intact. That said the Horizon League is hard to win on the road and we'll have to play very good to win. Milwaukee, WSU and UIC will all be hard fought games. I still look forward to 2 complete halves and when that happens I'll be all . We're getting closer with 3/4 the last game just have to get over the hump. 1st road trip always makes me nervous. 4 good teams, 3 league games will really test us and we will know by next week how we responded. Anyone know if this will be aired tonight or later?

In case you want to watch a live stream of the game, you can go to: www.csu.edu/cas/artanddesignandCMAT/csutv/watchtv.htmGreen Bay should definitely be a tough contest for the Cougars, and hopefully it'll be a good contest for both teams.

Thanks for the video feed Josh, it's working nicely. 23-10 GB up at 10 min. mark. 40-29 at half. Tough Chicago team, lot's of pressure and hard nosed. Wish CSU had had joined the HL it would have they would have been a good partner on Chicago trips to UIC. Chicago hitting 3's I don't think GB has one yet but Rebounds and TO's the difference. Final 98-62. I still like CSU's hustle and tenacity but they hurt themselves on FT's and lacked height. GB got a lot of points in the paint and rebounds. 2nd half GB also started hittingthe 3's and taking care of the ball. Great start on the road. Also the best 2 halves I've seen them play, CONGRATS to GB players. I'll see if I can find the stat's. sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/green-bay-phoenix-chicago-state-cougars-201401070112/Sykes 21 pts Brown 20 pts Mays 19 pts Love 10 pts Good night again from the bench But out rebounded them by 20, even on TO's, more steals and blocked shots by GB. 20 assists by GB shows great vision and team work.

Caught the stream along with WNFL's audio. Fun game to watch. We're looking very good right now. Can't wait for Sunday, going down to the game, as it'll probably be the last game I'll see this year until the conference tourney.

A couple complaints though. 1) Wish BW would have had Greg in the game to get 20 points as well. 2) Gotta start hitting 3's or just stop taking them. 3) Al's string of picking up 3 fouls really quick. Just can't get tangled in that crowd around half court after just picking one up.

Awesome performance. Chicago St is a pesky bunch, but the Phoenix is just moving and passing incredibly well right now. CSU returned 9 of last years 10 man rotation that GB beat by just 5 at the Resch Center Last year. This shows how this team has grown.
Another team held to under 34% shooting, and the Nix were plus 21 on the glass. 8 more blocked shots too. That's getting it done on the defensive end.
Time to do the same to Milwaukee.

I liked the Twitter posting from last night -- "Marshall High beats Chicago State." Chicago area recruiting.

It was great to deliver a beat down on the road. CSU might not be a notable team but they did play hard. Their coach has a tough task and didn't stike me as a great x and o's guy but he had them playing hard and with pride. GB had a struggle getting the ball in a few times but once they did they were able to really attack CSU's trapping defense. Credit to the coaching staff on that, they had it set up to get the ball in a spot that could create an advantage for GB. The tempo of the game was frantic at points in time, very enjoyable to watch.
I love the twitter quote that Tulsa posted. Imagine if McKinnie would have played!
A few things of note. Jared Dimakos is still a work in progess. He made one shot look easy and a similar shot was missed by a mile. If he isn't making shots he struggles because he isn't that good in the other areas of his game yet. With that said, I am happy he is on a D1 scholarship somewhere, that would be a dream for any athlete. Also, he gave a big hug to Coach Wardle after the game so anyone that wants to talk about transfers out of GB because of Wardle can at least cross one guy off the list.
The announced crowd of 800+ was very generous. I would guess 250 actual people would be generous as well. A lot of the fans were there to see GB, they had a good size section of friends and family. When the game ended almost nobody left, goes to show how many people where fans and how many were connected to the players in some format.
The Jones Convocation Center is perfect for Mid Major hoops. Every HL team that doesn't have a decent arena should be on notice. The footprint of the building isn't that big so it could fit in a small area. The seating bowl hugs the court nicely so every seat feels on top of the action. If they had some people in there it would be a tough spot to win. I know they built it with state money and not their own money but some of the HL teams need to figure out how to get their facilities up to that standard.
As for CSU joinging the HL, even with that building I would say that should be a no go for a while to come. The school itself is way on the south side and kind out of the action. They only have like 400 kids living on campus so it is going to take a while before they really build up to having a good crowd. Plus they spend so little on hoops, they would need to add a million bucks to their hoops budget just to get to the mid point of the league.

Huge win for Chicago St tonight, as they knock off RPI #57 New Mexico St. CSU is now 3-0 in WAC play. This makes Green Bay's dominate win there even more impressive.
The win pushes Chicago St up to 150th in RPI, which is better than 5 Horizon League teams.
