Youngstown St (9-7)@ Green Bay (10-3) When: Saturday, 1/4, 1:00 Where: The Resch Center Media: streaming at Horizon League Network
Back to work today against the dangerously unconventional YSU. One of the few teams that plays at a faster pace than Green Bay. Kendrick Perry is outstanding, but sophomore center Bobby Hain is one to watch too. Highly skilled.
Need to guard the 3 point line today, and continue to attack the basket on offense. Go Phoenix!!

Heading over there in 45 minutes. Like shoottheJ said we have to defend the 3. We'll need a real good effort to continue our winning streak. I hoping to see 2 really good halves. It been a problem putting 2 together and this would be a great time before we go on our road trip. Let's start our road trip 11-3 and build from there no reason we can't have a 10+ game winning streak but 1 game at a time. I think our bench will come through, we'll need 8+ because of the speed of the game both teams play.

Final GB 85 YSU 69 Not a tale of two halves just a slow start and by 1/2 way through the 1st half GB was turning it on. 2nd half was all GB. Brown, Sykes, Mays and Fouse all had a great game. Also good minutes and points from the bench. Though our 3pt shooting % took a little hit at 0 but FT was above 81.8%. Good part is we didn't take a lot of 3's and bad part is we only got 11 FT attempts. But we attacked the basket and played like Champions. We were up by 20 most of the last 5 minutes. Also the ref's were not our friends YSU got the majority of any questionable calls. It looked like we had at least 3-4 clean blocks that YSU got 2 FT's IMO. sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/youngstown-state-penguins-green-bay-phoenix-201401040652/

Very good second half, very good last 30 minutes. Need to step it up in the first 10 minutes of the game. Al and Keif keep up the good work. Really like the nice run at the end of the first half for us. And like previously said, (I was sitting behind YSU's bench Row A 223, so close) there were some horribly questionable calls down on that end. Kenny Lowe really looking like more than a freshman, fills in incredibly with Al McKinnie out. Too bad he couldn't get a dribble down on that dunk he got called for traveling on.

There are two things that stand out to me about this win. First, when GB was down 10 points in the first half they didn't seem rattled. They mixed up the defense to get momentum back and that was all it took to put ysu away.
Second, they won by a wide margin without making a 3 pointer or a ton of free throws. I am not sure past teams could do that. In the hl last night uwm was 0-fer from deep and they got bombed at home.
I dont like that GB hasn't gone wire to wire on anyone yet. At some point they will get caught by an hl team in a slow start and not come back but with how they play I can't see that happening too often. If they ever had a game with d, rebounding, 3pt shooting and a healthy McKinnie it might be unreal.
Also, I thought Matt and Cordero where being really generous to Slocum and YSU on the broadcast. This team isn't as bad as what Slocum started with but it is still one of the worst programs in the league and at some point they should try a new direction. In my ideal world the HL expands without YSU, let them upgrade football to the MAC or join football in the OVC but in their current form I am not a fan.

One other thought, 2600 fans is rough. With a good record on this road trip maybe then the locals will be interested.
Sidenote: Yes, I know that seems odd for a guy to type who watched the game online at home. I did drive up on Thursday from Milwaukee to see a game that was on tv so I am not a total hypocrite:-)
Is anyone else's hln really blurry? I think it was coming thru on my tablet in 240p, I didn't know that was possible. I watch espn3 without issue so I was curious if this is isolsted to me or across the network.

Typically (at least in the post-Bennett era), home attendance will go up after the Packer season, especially on weekend games. That was the case after last season's playoff loss. The casual fan can't focus on more than one local team at a time. Hopefully with at least a 3-1 or 4-0 record on the next road trip that it will get locals excited as GB should take control of the conference lead. That Wright State game bugs me and could be a potential loss; They are 9-8, but 8-0 at home. Any update on Al McKinnie's knee? At what point does BW put him on the shelf for the season? We're almost halfway through the schedule.....

Any update on Al McKinnie's knee? At what point does BW put him on the shelf for the season? We're almost halfway through the schedule..... Nothing has changed yet, he remains day to day. When he can practice without experiencing significant swelling afterwards, he'll play. They won't shut him down, there's no point in that, unless it's medically necessary. Definately frusterating, it must be just killing him. Hang in there Alfonzo!

The casual fan can't focus on more than one local team at a time. I do agree that has been the case but what worries me is that there are only 6 home games left. I am not sure the casual fan knows that. Of those 6 games there are two on Wednesday, one on Thursday, two on Saturday and one on Sunday. Senior night is on a Thursday. If uwm remains solid then the Saturday game with them should bring out a crowd. The Wednesday night games are against teams that might not draw well and the locals have already showed this year that week nights don't draw well. It is too early to assume the HL tournament will be in GB but if that is the case that adds 1 or 2 more games depending on how they perform.
