Cleveland St (8-6) @ Green Bay (9-3)When: Thursday, 1/2/14, 7:00 Where: The Resch Center TV: Time Warner Cable SportsChannel (1332 in HD) Lets get conference play started! I really love this schedule format as opposed to when the conference used to slip in a pair of games in early December. Cleveland St comes in at 112th in RPI, and appear to be Green Bay's chief competitor for the conference crown. They're coming off a solid road win over Kent St, which came after they lost in OT at Toledo. Sophomore SG Bryn Forbes has been oustanding, and Penn St transfer Trey Lewis has been coming on. However, Anton Grady hasn't been as explosive as he was pre-injury, leaving CSU a little challenged in the middle. Scott Venci tweeted that Alphonzo McKinnie will miss this game as he continues to struggle with his knee injury. No updates on Greg Mays or Josh Humphrey, which is likely good news. I'm sure Scott will have more for us in the morning. We've been waiting a long time to go into conference play as the hunted, this game should be fun. Andrew Gavin's Preview

CSU is banged up, some doubt if Grady, Mason or Harris will play based on a tweet a read the other day. Either way they are a solid club that always puts up a good fight under Waters. It would be nice to send a message on night one of league play.
I am officially worried about Al McKinnie. It has been almost two weeks since the Fairfield game and he is still not ready to come back, just hope he is only a few days away.

Time to keep the winning streak going. CSU is one of the better teams so no let downs. Every team wants to beat GB in League play because we were picked to take 1st. One game at a time one more win!

GB 66 CSU 55 What a tale of two different halves. All CSU 1st half in fact 14 out of their 1st 18 points were layups and the other 4 points were 8-10 footers. GB was throwing it around the perimeter but not attacking the basket. 1st half to many TO's by GB and to many rebounds by CSU. 2nd half after being down by 6 they tied it up and never lost the lead. We played mostly zone in the 2nd half and really attacked the basket on Offense. We were in 1 on 1 with 12 min. left in 2nd half. Fouse and Brown were awsume. Brown had 1 foul in 36 minutes and 17 points. I beleive Fouse had a career high for points with 15 tying KS for 2nd high on the team. KS, Vince and Mays all had highlights. Jordan stole the ball in 2 out of 3 CSU possesions. 1st half we were 1/3 on FT's 2nd half we were 75%+. For all the layups CSU had in the 1st half we had in the 2nd and shut them down. We also never had a dunk until the last 5-7 min. but probably ended up with 4-5. We did get out rebounded by a shorter but very quick team. But GB shoot better than CSU on 2's, 3's and better FT% made up for rebounds. TO's were even at 11 for each team but most of ours were in the 1st half and CSU's were in the 2nd half. sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/cleveland-state-vikings-green-bay-phoenix-201401020652/

Phoenix dominate the 2nd half and win 66-55. Even when the Nix were struggling in the 1st half, it just felt like it was going to be another double digit victory. The team continues to shoot well from long distance. AB has been a defensive force when he can avoid foul trouble.

From what I remember Lee and Forbes were both held scoreless in the second half. Lee was killing GB early but once they slowed him down CSU started to stall.
The only real negative is that they couldn't keep Mason and Grady off the glass, offensive rebounding in particular was a big advantage for CSU. This has been a recurring problem, if they can clean this up GB will be very hard to beat.
When CSU was only up 6 at the half I felt confident, it seemed like they should have been up more. Give the Phoenix a lot of credit for their second half play. In many games they seem tougher and can play hard the entire half when other teams are starting to weardown.
I was disappointed that only 2200 people were there. I know it was cold and the Packers playoffs is the talk of the town but the community needs to figure out pretty quick that something special is brewing at the Resch.

I had a feeling 17 pts were his high after a time out was called and KS ran onto the floor and grabbed him jumping up and down. I just checked and it is a high the most I could find was 13 in the past. Congrats to Jordan and nice leadership from KS who was on the bench when it happened but was excited for his teamate. Suprised the announcers didn't catch it?
The only negative was the bench, Fulton was back to his usual self 0 points, 2 assists, and 3 fouls. All he could do was grab when a CSU player went by him. The whole bench didn't do much except give the starters a break. Something like 3 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 fouls. We're going to need more production from the bench to win games.
I too was disappointed with attendance. Yes weather was a factor but for true fans it wouldn't matter. Come on GB we have two great teams in GB. So lets get behind both of them, you might find UWGB is very entertaining.

I was really impressed with the second half of play. Exciting game all around. Was pleased to see AB have another very good game, played incredibly well on defense while staying out of foul trouble. Was really impressed with Jordan's play as well too, he really shined last night.

After losing to Green Bay by 11, Cleveland St went down to Milwaukee last night and won by 28. This conference race is already separating. GB #1, CSU #2.
