Cavalier here. Trekking it up from St. Louis with my son to catch the game in your fine city. I suspect this will be a tough match and am looking forward to watching the exploits of Sykes and Fouse.
Any questions anyone has, I'll be glad to answer on the condition I get a good recommendation for where to go for a solid post-game dinner.
Cheers J

Why doesn't the VA Scout board have a separate Basketball and Football page? It's frustrating wading through their FB bitching just to get to the BB (interesting) stuff!

Bitching about football is our most popular sport at UVA. Most of our activity is on TheSabre.com. Try this. The Sabre Basketball BoardLots of good non-UVA BB discussion in between games as well. UVA-Wisc talk will get going by tomorrow morning.

Copernic, have a good drive up from St. Louis. I love a good basketball road trip!
How mobile on defense is Mike Tobey? I see he is big but he doesn't have much in the way of defensive stats. Alec Brown tends to struggle down low against strong bodies but if he can get them out in space he still can score. What can we expect from this matchup?
I don't live in GB anymore but I am sure if you ask at your hotel you will hear a lot of the same names for places to go. Kroll's has been popular for a long time, it is just west of Lambeau. Curly's is inside of Lambeau is always a popular destination. Whenever I come up from Milwaukee I go to The Settlement. Not sure if it's because of the big portions or if it is because it reminds me of my college days!

A personal note on this game it's has a special meaning for me. I graduated from UWGB and as a television reporter I covered UVA for a number of years during the Ralph Sampson Era. I'll be cheering for the Nix but it will be difficult with all the Bennett Family has done over the years for Green Bay.
Both basketball programs are in good places right now. The timing was off but it would have been nice to see Tony get his first heading coach assignment at UWGB.

Copernic, have a good drive up from St. Louis. I love a good basketball road trip! Hey GBPhoenix1, Thanks for the tips. Akil Mitchell will likely be the first that Brown will have to face, although given Brown's size, Tobey may be his matchup and will quite possibly start, shifting Mitchell to the four. Tobey is 7th in minutes and has come off the bench lately so his stat-line may not be impressive but he is highly efficient, ranking second in points, rebounds and blocks per minute. He's got good feet and plays his man well. His weakness tends to be in helping others on drives in the paint, but even there, it is a quibble. UVA has a system defense that has been highly effective in keeping people from scoring in the paint. Point is, Mike Tobey isn't the determiner of whether Brown or whoever else is ineffective around the basket, the Pack Line Defense will. Best

A fanbase' appreciation for Tony Bennett's contribution, two team's with something to prove, and a lively crowd, this will be a great time.

I'll be at the game on Saturday. I couldn't be more excited about it. Two good teams, two contrasting styles of play, and the legend returns.
I think the key will be tempo. If Virginia can force GB to play in the half court, that is going to cause some problems for the Phoenix. The only way to win that way are huge games from Sykes and Brown. If GB can get out in transition all bets are off.

You asked about supper but it depends on where you are staying. If close to the Resch, Brett Farves Steakhouse is good and next door to the Marriot (used to be Cambria Suites) is another good restaurant. Also 4 sports bars within walking distance, I perfer The Bar but all of them are good.

Keep in mind that there is a Packer home game Sunday. The stadium district will be pretty busy Saturday night.

If GB can get out in transition all bets are off. I agree. Sykes and Brown's best bets may be to hit midrange shots and hopefully your 3-pointers are dropping. UVA will try to push GB out to just inside the three point line and will clog up the lane something fierce. They have a great help defense that will frustrate attempts at picks designed to free up the point and shooting guards. Best bet will be for GB to rotate the ball around fast to open up a hole. Any attempt to bring the ball into the paint will be met with 2-3 guys gunking up the lane so most teams try to hit outside shots. UVA lives or dies on whether they can contest these effectively and if teams are hitting these shots. This especially becomes apparent with drives and dishes. Because the defense packs in, sometimes it's hard to find a passing lane to the edge but if it is working, shots will be hard to contest. UVA is also decent at getting back in transition. Even on breakaways, if Justin Anderson is in the game, don't be surprised to see a couple of balls swatted from behind. He'll be the one with the big grin on his face. Our key this year is depth. We are pretty happy with any rotation of about 10 guys so no one loses any sleep if there are 3-4 players sitting in front of the score table. Lately our spark has come from the bench so if the starters aren't getting it done, a new wave comes in to right the ship.

I think the most impressive thing about VA is their depth. Harris will be a big loss next year, but the only other contributor that will leave is Mitchell, and he has been rather inconsistent. If Tony can keep this Soph class together, they will finally have that foundation where he can just start adding parts to the puzzle.
Copernic, how difficult is it to get(decent)tickets for games at the Jones Center?

Copernic, how difficult is it to get(decent)tickets for games at the Jones Center? The John Paul Jones center is beautiful enough it may just sell a few seats when nothing's going on. It is that impressive. Now-a-days, tickets seem to be available for out-of-conference games. I'm from St. Louis so I don't get to go often and am not an expert on this. However, for example, the Wisconsin game on Wed isn't sold out yet (it's close). Of course it's a Wednesday and few Alumni live in Charlottesville so the Richmonders and DC residents and those further away have quite a drive mid-week. But once ACC play begins and given recent hype about the team, tickets will be hard to come by. There are always scalpers and some single tix available but for the most part, you'd have to hit StubHub and pay a small premium for seats (not Duke/UNC prices, but a little something extra nonetheless)
