Coach Wardle in letter to season tickets holders says Coach Dick Bennet will be an adviser during the 2013/2014 season. I've posted the entire letter.
UNIVERSITY of WISCONSIN
GREEN BAY
Phoenix Fans!
On behalf of all of the players and coaches in the Green Bay men's basketball program, I hope this
letter finds you doing well and enjoying this beautiful Wisconsin summer. While our players and
coaches are enjoying the offseason, this time of year also presents a valuable opportunity for all of us
to get better. Including our four newcomers, our full team has been on campus since June 24 and has
been working hard both on the court and in the classroom. Our coaching staff has been able to work
with the team on a limited basis, and I can assure you that all of the Phoenix players are taking the
steps now that are necessary for us to compete for a championship in 2013-14.
Before the season gets too close, I wanted to touch base with each of you with some exciting news,
important-information-and key dates related to our program. The first announcementis a special one.
Phoenix Hall of Famer and legendary coach Dick Bennett has been a great mentor and supporter of
mine since I became the head coach at Green Bay, and today I am excited to announce that during the
2013-14 season he will be serving as an advisor to our coaching staff. One of rny favorite phrases that
I use with our team is, "strengthen your strengths and improve your weaknesses," and having Coach
Bennett around our program provides a valuable opportunity for all of us to do that while learning
from one of the best. Personally, I am looking forward to continuing to learn from one of the all-time
great college basketball coaches.
In the past three seasons, we have posted a 33-9 record at the Resch Center playing in front of you,
our loyal and passionate fans. This offseason, we reached an agreement to continue our partnership
with PMI Entertainment Group, meaning the Resch Center will remain the Home of the Phoenix for
years to come!
Speaking of the Bennett family and the Resch Center, I am not sure that the building has ever hosted
such an exciting home schedule. On Dee. 7, Phoenix Hall of Famer and our program's all-time leading
scorer Tony Bennett will return to Green Bay as the head coach of the Virginia Cavaliers. He has done a
phenomenal job building a strong program in the ACC, and we look forward to hosting the Cavaliers in
what is sure to be an exciting game.
Early in our home schedule, Wisconsin visits the Resch Center on Saturday, Nov. 16 for an in-state
battle.
With four starters returning from last year, including All-Horizon League standouts Alec Brown and
Keifer Sykes, we are excited about the chance to compete for a conference championship. The Horizon
League will again prove to be extremely competitive night in and night out, with talented players
returning to Cleveland State, Detroit, UIC, Milwaukee, Valparaiso, Wright State and Youngstown
State and the addition of Oakland. You will have the chance to see us play each of our conference
opponents this season at the Resch Center.
As you can see, even though it is only July, there is a lot going on with the Green Bay men's basketball
program and plenty of exciting things to look forward to this season. In the coming weeks, please be
on the lookout for more information about our program, including a season ticket renewal package.
Thank you for your continued support of Green Bay Basketball, and we look forward to seeing you at
the Resch Center this season!
