I had a chance to stop by the Milwaukee Pro Am on Friday night. The brewcityball.com team has Carrington Love and Jordan Fouse. Carrington played on Friday, Jordan did not. I thought I would give a good, bad and ugly review of C Love's game.
The good:
He scored 29 points by my count.
He made 5 three pointers and they use the NBA 3 point line.
He had 5 or 6 assists.
When he got the ball he was pushing the pace.
He had a lot of tricky dribbling, overall a solid handle on the ball.
He had a ton of confidence, the way he played he felt like he was one of the best players on the court.
He appears to be well liked by all of the other guys who play. That certainly can't hurt GB when recruiting if they have a guy who other guys want to hang out with.
The bad:
The game was listed as a 6:30 start, C Love and most of his team didn't arrive until 6:45ish.
His overall shooting was 11-26 by my count but 2-2 at the line.
He had a couple of steals but also had a lot of times when he was floating around not really play defense. Which is not a surprise in a league like this but it wasn't indicative of how he will have to play this season.
The ugly:
If you have low expectations for summer basketball this wouldn't bother you. If you want to see a legit game then watching Love play would have annoyed you. Several fans sitting in my area where wondering what he was doing. He was talking to his friends in the crowd a lot during the game. He pulled up and launched a lot of jumpers without passing. When he wasn't playing point he was just hanging out on the wings calling for the ball hoping to pop another 3.
Overall:
You can tell he has worked hard to improve his ball handling and shooting. He may have been shooting a little much but I think that is just coming from having a lot of confidence from his improvement and hard work. As long as he gets back to playing like a bulldog with his new skills he should make a statistical jump this year.
Other:
Duane Wilson is a freak. He can shoot from deep, he can handle and he can dunk. He is going to be a good player for Marquette and to me looks like a guy who will be on the NBA radar.
Jameel McKay is also a freak. Not the biggest guy but he is long and he plays with a motor and energy that will excite fans. My goodness can he dunk as well.
Jamil Wilson seemed to be just hanging out until it came time to lock the game up. He just took over, very impressive closing 5 minutes. Might be the next MU tweener to blow up later in his career and head to the 2nd round of the nba draft.
Ed Reed. I don't know who this dude is but he tried to sub in late in the game and nobody would come out. He got mad, complained to the league organizer, took off his jersey and left before the game ended. Very funny for the few people who noticed.
Evan Richard from uwm played, I guess. He didn't do anything and despite looking like a baller in warm ups I don't see how he gets on the court with all of the other guards milwaukee has recruited for this year.
