heres some video for when he took over rutgers midnight madness
even if he has to sit out this year, ur looking at him, sykes, and mckinney all playing together, for their senior seasons, if that doesnt bring chemistry to a team , i dont know what will. its obvious these guys are just itching to all get together for one year.
with his atheltisicm, you really have another fouse defensively, a guy that can play any position in the zone. that brings tremendous flexibility. not to mention if you stick him at the 2 guard for some minutes, hes has the ability to pull down rebounds there. when i see him i see versatility at the mid major level, gives the coach alot of options to work mis matches.
think about the syracuse zone, length, quickness, and athleticism. with the last 3 recruits, wardell has really pushed for that direction. some of his earlier recruits in his first couple of years... didnt always fit that mold, and really had me scratching my head.

There's is a tremendous irony to this signing. Rutgers coach, Mike Rice got fired for documented verbal and physical abuse of players. Nix coach, Brian Wardle was pretty much cleared after an extensive investigation into alleged verbal abuse. Possibly more than any recruit in the country -- Garrett must have an insight directly from his two former high school teammates -- Sykes and McKinnie. Garrett is not entering the program blind. He knows the inside story and wants to be on a team that has a chance to win a conference title.

I think there is a good chance Garrett is allowed to play this season. The competition for playing time will be fierce. If they do not sign Tre Harris they should consider banking the remaining scholarship. They may want to consider red shirting one of the young recruits.

Welcome to Vince. If he is half of the player in real life I expect him to be he will have a good season in GB. He seems to fit the athletic and long, plays defense and run up and down description that Can Opener Man described for the rest of the team. I like that you can see a clear direction for the team as almost all of the players they are bringing in fit that mold.
I will say this, if he can play this year I love his addition. If he has to sit a year I just like the addition. There is a clear hole available for him to fill this year. This is the year with Alec being a senior that I think GB can make a deep run. Plus if DT comes back it balances the classes. Alec, Vince and DT are seniors. Kiefer, Greg and Al are juniors. Jordan, Josh and CLove are in their second year of playing. Lowe, Botz and Findlay as freshmen. If we have to wait a year for Vince I am sure I will like him as a player but a one year player one year from now doesn't excite me as much.
Also, based on what I read he was an undersized big in high school who is still building his perimeter skills. The Rutgers board I read indicated he was a good teammate and looked the part of a scorer when he did play.
I have to imagine there will be a small espn/fox sports/cbs sports article eventually on his transfer to GB. Too much irony for the media to skip.

I too like the defensive tools of this athlete. GB was very strong defensively in conference play a year ago despite having to cover up for non-athletes like Cerroni and Cougill, and to a lesser extent Stefan and Arenz. They now replace them with speed and length with McKinnie, Finlay, Lowe, and hopefully Garret. I see an excellent 1-3-1 zone in our future.
Garret was highly recruited by numerous high majors out of JC. Described repeatedly as an awe striking athlete and quality mid-range scorer. What I like to hear about the most though is his toughness and competitiveness.
It will be interesting to see how they use the last scholarship. Tre Harris has been dealing with a foot injury for awhile, which may affect what they do there.

Hopefully the NCAA lets players who transfer after a coaching change play right away if Rutgers released them?

i can't see him getting a waiver to play right away, unless everyone that leaves rutgers gets a waiver because of the mike rice mistreatment situation.

Just my guess but based on two items the more I think about the more I doubt Garrett will receive a waiver. The first is that he announced he was leaving prior to Mike Rice being exposed to the public and then fired. I am not sure if his leaving was playing time related or Mike Rice related. The second is that he is coming to a program that has just been subject to verbal abuse claims and probably can't be painted as a 180 degree change of pace for a player coming from Rutgers.
