What they fail to remember about great coaches like Lombardi was that Lombardi knew when to back off. He'd tear a guy down, but just when that player was going to hit rock bottom, he knew how to get them back up. Bringing discipline and toughness to your team is a good thing, but I think Wardle needs to learn the fine line of going too far to the point where you break a guy. That's counterproductive in the long run. I didn't like what I heard about Wardle, but he didn't do anything that made him deserve to be fired. Hopefully he can learn something from all this. Interesting comments and good perspective. Just my mile high opinion but I could see how Coach Wardle was getting stuck in his habits because some of the players have responded very well to his coaching. Plus the team was the best defensive and rebounding team in league play based on stats. How he keeps the team going in the direction with a more positive approach will be a key storyline for this season.

This is from Rob Demovsky's, Press Gazette story today. Bross family says: "We disagree with the conclusions of the report and the slap on the wrist Mr. Wardle received."
OK, I can understand parents siding with their child. The question that hasn't been answered is what finding and punishment would be acceptable to the Bross Family? Do they want him to be fired? If that is the case say it. An independent, qualified attorney has conducted an extensive investigation. Based on that Chancellor Harden has assessed a punishment for language and comments that he feels are out of line with what the university is about.
I think the independent investigator and Chancellor Harden have done an outstanding job. They have been fair to all sides from the get go. Coach Wardle throughout the process kept his mouth shut letting the process work without playing it out in the media. The Bross' would have been well advised to do the same. That didn't happen for whatever reason and to the public it made it look like this was a vendetta aimed at destroying a career.
Wardle favored rising juniors and seniors to allow them to take classes needed for graduation. That seems as it should be. A freshman walk-on has a choice to take his general education requirements initially and that schedule is easier to work around a practice schedule.
I'm sure all parties have learned from all this. It's time to move on.

It's time to move on. I'm getting real tired of the Bross family. Why can't Ryan talk for himself instead of his parents talking? His only interview was before the independent review was in. This seems like their one claim to fame. Rob just continues to write one sided articles. I'm sure he's upset that BW won't give interviews, but I'm sure his lawyer is advising him not to. Rob just runs with the Bross's and doesn't report what the independent review which refutes many of their complaints. He could have done a point and counter point based on the investigation! I'm sorry for the rant but it's time for a change at the Press to a News paper instead of a rumor or opinion RAG. If it's new management or reporter someone needs to be held accountable. I'm sure only firing would have made the Bross's happy. I'm hoping BW's lawyer files suit with both. I hope Ryan the best but with parents like his I can't see him making it through Med School unless he grows up. Med School isn't going to put up with them and he has no clue how tough Med School is going to be. 24 hour shifts take there toll and they don't care if you're sick or not!

Memo to the Bross Family: Don't go away mad, just go away.........If they continue to use the GB PG to smear BW's name, he may have grounds for slander/libel (NOTE: I'm not a lawyer and I don't play one on TV)......
I do agree with jjmiller that we need a new beat writer for GB Basketball. Impartiallity is non-existent wtih Rob D right now and there is too much bad blood between BW/UWGB/the PG/Rob D. Let him focus on the Packers/Golf and give a young reporter a chance to make a name for himself/herself. Who's the PG beat writer fot the GB women's team??
bigv and bigv2 where are you??? ;-)

Joseph Nicks, a former local prosecutor who conducted the investigation, concluded that ''a good deal of what was alleged did not occur as it was stated.''

Bigv here!
You guys baited me back in!!!!
I am glad that the investigation cleared everything up!!!!
I do believe there will be some additional fall out.....I could go on about my thoughts regarding the investigation but negativity isn't what we should be focusing on right now. Let's let the program move on and heal and let Wardle show what he can do.
Good luck to the team in 2013/2014.....Wardle has done a Good job of recruiting with all the obstacles and issues put in front of him. Let's hope all involved have learned from this and become better coaches/administrator's/people/players/parents/FANS.

Amen to that.
When I read the Bross Family comments and what I fear coach Wardle's feelings may be I'm reminded of this quote from Nelson Mandela, “Resentment is like drinking poison and then hoping it will kill your enemies.”

In the end there are no real winners as Coach Wardle was dragged through the mud via Rob D. and the press gazette, while the Bross family looks like helicopter parents with a son that can't defend himself. Both of those may be overstated a bit but I believe that would be the overall consensus.
In addition, I am not sure why the Bross family sent the complaint letter to the PG in the first place and then said they do not agree with the decision. Of course they would not agree and to me only made themselves look worse by stating that.
Lastly, when the Bross family said they disagreed they kept saying Mr. Wardle instead of coach. So I wonder if MKEPanther will take offense to that.
I am not sure why the Bross family sent the complaint email to the

Wardle continues to garner support from the "establishment" college basketball community. On Twitter, ESPN commentator and former D1 head coach, Dan Dakich posted this
"Good for Wisconsin Green Bay retaining Brian Wardle..kids/parents can complain about anything esp the dreaded 'verbal abuse.'"

Don't get me wrong, I like that other coaches/former coaches are supporting Coach Wardle. However, is getting Dan Dakich's opinion on verbal abuse a bit like asking an alcoholic if it is acceptable to drink too much? ;D I thought Dakich had a reputation for foul talk?!

Dan was an assistant for Bobby Knight -- a tough demanding coach who won a few national titles. Bobby and Dan would make Wardle look like a choir boy, in terms of language. Ironic isn't it.

If I remember correctly, Dakich called the game two years ago when Keifer had to change jerseys 3 times and was openly bleeding from the head. If I'm correct, Dakich was super impressed with how tough Keifer was and how that was a reflection of Wardle.
