Green Bay (10-9) @ Valparaiso (15-5 When: Wednesday, January 23, 7:00 Where:The ARC Streaming: ESPN3 Andrew Gavin's Phoenix PreviewHopefully the Phoenix are now polished enough in their zone that they can take the defense we saw this homestand with them. They'll need it against Valpo's high powered offense. Nix are just a game behind 1st, with Valpo and WSU now tied at the top. The road hasn't been kind to the Phoenix, and there couldn't be a more important time to rise up. A loss isn't crippling, but a win would be huge.

Here's Rob Demovsky's game preview and story on GB's hopes to avoid its typical road woes: Phoenix hopes to avoid roadblock in tonight's gameDid you notice the headline? The editor skipped calling the team "UWGB" in the headline. Wow, I'm impressed, nice work! The only good thing about Packesr season being over is that we get Rob's coverage back fulltime.

The color analyst last night nailed it. The Nix have not been able to establish any continuity all season -- injuries, suspensions and youth. This is not an excuse it's an explanation. There have been at least three major suspensions and three injuries that have kept players off the court.
All this can do one of two things. The season heads totally south or they start surprising teams. Barring further suspensions and injuries good things can happen. Look at the road comeback last night.
Against Valpo they needed minutes from Stefan and he got them but the rust is clearly still there. He has proven on the D1 level at LaSalle that he can play. Do you think Mays could have helped against Valpos bigs last night?
This is a frustrating team because we can see the talent. GB was lucky to be 2 and one while Mays was sitting. It's not just the loss of a player with a suspension or injury it's what it does to the chemistry and flow of the team on offense and defense. It has forced new roles for nearly everyone. In the end will it help?
The Nix are overdue to bust out on the road. Once that happens this team and coach will have grown up.

The turnovers continue to frustrate me to no end. They wouldn't have had to rally if they could control that at least a little bit.
Valpo was well schooled and ready for the 12 defense. They got several shots up in the corners by making extra passes and moving the defense around.
Can Cougs eventually make a 3 pointer this year? He keeps shooting them and had at least one that was down and out. Plus I thought he was really bad on defense in this game, he just seemed to not be aware of his surroundings.
I like that Cole had several steals, he seemed lost on the bench on the home stand but made the most of his minutes in this game. He took the ball to the hoop too, now he just needs to finish. It didn't matter in the grand scheme of things but it can't hurt that his late 3 went straight in. He needed that.
It wasn't for 40 minutes but I thought Alec was pretty solid. He still struggles dribbling in to the post and seems to do his best work when he catches and goes right in to a shot. If it is not there he should pass out.
Ryan B's 3 late crushed me as a fan. Just when I thought GB was coming back one last time that guy came up big. The final score didn't portray the whole game but in the end Valpo deserved a win, they played better than GB did.

The team got almost no production from the SG position, which has been the case in every road game all season long. That needs to change if this team is going to beat a quality opponent on the road.
