Drake is a solid enough team, though at think many fans, when they read we play Drake, thought "Where's Drake?", "What's Drake?", or "Drake who?". There is some very recognizable schools in the MVC, but Drake isn't it.
I like that we will be playing a school we consistently recruit against. Should be a great game, and great return game.

Rob Demovsky Has tweeted that Green Bay's opponent in the bracket buster will be Drake. They're 11-11 with an RPI of 137. Solid match-up. Drake has lost 4 in a row. I recorded a game they played last week against Evansville. I finally had a chance to watch it. Their defense wasn't very good and they really only had one guy banging inside. They did have a ton of guys shooting from the outside. Ben Simons is a very similar player to Ryan Tillema. Very tall and can shoot from deep over his opponent. He didn't do much dribbling but was a good catch and shoot guy. In a man to man matchup I think Fouse with his length can slow him down. They had a little quick pg but I think Keifer is a much better players. They had a freshman named Joey King who reminds me of a more ready version of uwm's Austin Arians. I mean that as a compliment to both. I like Arians and I thought King was more solid. The two big guys, VanDeest and Clarke are thick. VanDeest couldn't create on his own but he could finish when it was created for him. Kind of soft on the glass and defending the paint. Clarke was a bigger version of Daniel Turner. He played hard and got his hands on a lot of balls. Decent skill set but better motor. He could be a matchup problem for GB. In looking at Drake they are not that bad because of their offense to stay in games yet I don't think have a good record because they don't have the kind of guys to get a big stop or board when they need it to win a close game. With GB improving on the road of late, I like their chances a lot more than I didn two weeks ago.

Yep, he was the pudgy guy that played between the 3 point lines in the last Lickliter year. Hitting 3s was about all he was good for.
Sounds like some Drake people don't respect Cougs. I hope he has 20 points in the paint and 10 reb's. Go get them GB we need to win every game. Ps the big space had a picture of Cougs in a Iowa uniform, but it didn't transfer?

In addition the HL looking like amateur hour yesterday this particular game was easily one of the worst losses of the year. It was equal parts Coach Wardle and stupid/bad play.
I don't understand what Wardle was doing when he had Fouse/Brown/Sykes all on the bench at the same time in the first half. At that time Arenz/Love where in the game at the same time. I didn't understand the zone lineup. Drake had Simons working the baseline back and forth until he could catch and shoot it. He went right over the close outs from Sultan, Cole etc. How about Fouse/Mays/Brown? They did close out Simons several times. Plus they kept trying to post up Brown and he couldn't get clean looks. In those cases go to his jumper and get him spaced out of the paint.
As for the stupid/bad play. No three point shooting from the shooting guards, 1-10. Big guys (cougs/mays) with air balls and jumpers off of the side of the back board. Keifer ahead of the defense on fast break and turning it over on a back pass to Mays for a dunk attempt. Take the layup! In the second half they were starting to get looks at the hoop but Keifer missed 3 easy ones, Alec dunked a ball in to the rim, Jordan missed layups on dribble drives and Love missed a point blank put back.
For the most part it was just a bad effort all the way around. While the game didn't matter it did make me feel like they are a million miles away from ever going to the dance let alone winning a game in the tournament. Hopefully they regroup, they have most of the year. They have a big week with no time to sulk.

There's no place like home. I hope that helps.

Frusterating game, but Drake did do the same to Creighton a few weeks back. Drake's 3 point shooting was a bad match-up for our zone D. The disappointment was that GB shot so poorly against a bad Drake defense.
Not a good showing by the HL versus the MVC, but did we really have illusions of being the better conference? I don't think we did. The HL did go 4-1 versus the conferences that wish they were the HL, those being the MAC, Summit, and OVC.
