Green Bay (6-7) @ Wright St. (9-4) Thursday, Jan. 3, 6:00 TV: TWC Sports32
Conference season is here. Rocky road getting here, but it looks like the team is coming together just in time. Brown is finding hinself, Turner has returned from injury, Cougill returns from suspension, and Stefan will make his long awaited debut after transferring in. Green Bay got its 1st road win at Wright State last year, and needs to do the same this year. WSU is solid, but GB has more talent. Very cool that this will be on TV.

Excited that we're finally getting back close to a full squad. You guys think Wardle will change the pace/style now that he's playing with a full deck? Or do you think we'll keep seeing the 1-2-2 packed-in zone?

I said after the Marquette game that HL teams would be able to shoot down GB's zone. WSU has killed it. No idea why they aren't playing man. They opened in man and played it well.

Maybe it is because they have not played together as a unit during an actual game..but the Phoenix did not look like a well oiled machine. There was little "flow" to their offense. I suppose some of this was Wright State's D.

Wright State played very good defense, but Green Bay was very sloppy with their passing. Cougill looked like the only one who came to play.

That was a very pathetic effort. In one sense it was a game they should have won and in another they should have lost by a lot more.
The shooting was terrible. So many of the Phoenix players couldn't get a good look and then when they did they missed some easy shots. The turnovers were terrible, many of them unforced. If they clean this up maybe it is a different story. Then again WSU missed a ton of free throws so they could have won by a lot more.
WSU wasn't impressive but they didn't beat themselves either. GB played in a way that they negated their advantages. WSU played in a way that they were able to control the game and execute their game plan. Right now I would have to say Donlon > Wardle.
It was only one game and he has a lot of rust but Cole didn't do much to impress in this game. Sultan is the only of the 3 shooters that seems to be able to get his own shot up at this point.

There was absolutely no team flow for the Nix. There's talent there if they can play as a unit. Passing was embarrassing at best. Coug's showed up and must appreciate the opportunity.
Dick Bennett's goal was to have a team greater than the sum of the individuals. This year's team aint there. Having everyone healthy and back in action , for the first time, might give them a chance to develop. The coaches need to define roles and the best rotation. That simply has not happened.

This sounds like alot of the problems they had early in the season. Now it seems we're having them all over again? Sloppy ball handling, sloppy passing, and getting out hustled.

We did not look hungry last night. The talent is there, but he needs to get this team playing with fire in its belly. Maybe coach needs to get tossed from a game to try and lite that fire.
