This deal, assuming that it becomes official in the next few days, is beyond my comprehension. Getting a guy with 4 star talent and thoughts of the NBA, you'd think John Calipari was coaching GB and recruiting "one and dones", not Doug Gottlieb. Attempting to capture magic in a bottle is what mid-majors do nowadays and having a talented 7'1" guy on the team versus some tall guy with potential will definitely open some eyes in the Horizon League and among GB fans. The adrenaline is starting to flow.

The article Tulsa shared interesting he was dismissed from the team in January from Oklahoma state. Doug Gottlieb was a consultant for the oklahaoma state basketball so might have some insider knowledge about what happened. He played in three games. Was the only player above 6’6 really.

Do we know anything about his departure from NC State?

It sounds like he was picked up mid-year at NC State and was just never ready to play.
This is a great pick up because the talent seems to be there, but it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't work out. An excellent calculated risk IMO.

Isiah Miranda has to not get not get technical fouls. Be in good condition. He has the makings to probably be a pretty good player look at bol from Milwaukee 7 feet tall. In the panther arena there fans get loud start banging the walls. Guys like Bol and Wilson start blocking shots. You got a guy like Miranda who can do that to them helps and hall and James and hall and wrecke and santoro length athleticism.

Not to jinx him, but watching the practice tape Tulsa shared made me think of Patrick Baldwin Jr. That obviously didn’t play out well for MKE, but the talent was obvious. Isaiah has great length combined with elite athletic ability not often found at that size. Add to that what appears to be a pretty smooth shooting stroke and you have someone oozing with potential. As Milwaukee saw, potential doesn’t always translate into the product you hoped on the court but it’s definitely a risk worth taking. This is obviously someone Doug has direct experience with so that’s an added plus (though that Baldwin example remains true there too…). I’m super excited about this pickup.
I agree that on paper this has been an impressive start. The army truly does seem to have existed and is activating before our eyes. Could this all still implode, absolutely! But that’s true for any hire.

It will be interesting to see if we can pull another SoCal Academy prospect, with 2 current commitments (Miranda, Santoro). Garwey Dual would be an absolute homerun and the 3 played together at SoCal and he played with Santoro at Providence. He will more than likely pull his name from the draft. 247sports.com/player/garwey-dual-46132716/high-school-285326/

An excellent calculated risk IMO. Never a better time for a calculated risk than at the beginning of a coach's tenure. No one will blame Gottlieb if the team sucks this year, so you might as well take chances now.

The non conference schedule I guess will remain the same. The more is good. Coach Gottlieb will add what he wants. Maybe Marquette he and Shaka smart him have a relationship. But he has relationships with lots of d1 coaches. If the current non conference remains the same there are some interesting ones already. St. Thomas and former Phoenix rich byhre. Uwgb could add some more height?
But with 5 scholarships open anything is possible.

Hopefully Miranda can put it all together here, that would be amazing. Some risk that it doesn't work out at all, but I'm definitely down with this gamble.

Doug up early to signal another commitment. Probably very wishful thinking, but my pure speculation is that the latest recruit could be Jeremiah Johnson, recently de-committed guard from Oklahoma State. Pretty highly rated recruit, so that makes the chance much less likely, but the ties are there: OK State, played AAU ball out west, mutual following with Jordan McCabe on Twitter/his dad and Doug do the same.
