I see where Donavan Short is transferring out of Nebraska-Kearney. He went through the season from hell when he was at GB and must have felt pretty shell shocked with the firing of the old Nix coaching staff and the arrival of Sundance Wicks. I don't blame him for being a skeptical of the rebuild. That said, my bet is there's not a coach or coaching staff in the country who could help Short make the next step on and off the court. At this point the Nix players and potential recruits know what this Wicks/Green Bay Way is about and the value of the tough love approach. For Short it would be a return home and a chance to recapture the dream. A second chance is special and few get the opportunity.

We will have to see how things shake out after the season. They could use his length but will have have the mental makeup to play on Coach Wicks’ program?

We could ask the same thing about Cade Meyer.
Personally, I think they both would be better off looking elsewhere, although I once had high hopes for both of them.

I forgot about Cade…..I would would take him over Short. He would team up nicely with Bhyre and Jones up front.
But would Wicks want him or if he did would Cade fit into the culture that’s established now.

I would have zero worries about either guy working hard enough or buying into what Coach Wicks is doing.
In the case of Don, he has had two stops at two different levels and hasn't been a big on court contributor yet. I think there is potential in there but I can't see him being a scholarship player at GB next year based on his body of work so far.
In the case of Cade he has 1 year to play and may or may not be able to play it right away at the D1 level with the ever changing rules. He is a true post player which the team needs but the current crop of bigs has all shown the ability to play from the perimeter too. Cade used to have a nice perimeter drive and spin move but he hasn't flashed that since his freshman year. His outside shot needed help the last time we saw it. I still believe he is a D1 player though I'm not as sure GB on a rerun is the best fit for both.
Either way, I still follow these guys and would love for them to be successful wherever they end up.
