The West coast fun continues this Sunday at 2PM against Oregon State. Whoo-hoo! No Packers until Monday night, so absolutely why not? Early lines have us getting 16.5 points, which must be more of a reflection of maybe OSU allowing games to get close? Maybe I misread the lines and that's just first half? Our season average point differential is now a minus 18 per game. Of course dropping a 45 point Stanford Stinker helps inflate those numbers. On the season we are now a hair under 40% FG percentage. And on the NCAA stats page, we are now 351 out of 352 in 3-point percentage (thank you Texas Southern), despite all of the player development that is going on. Zae Blake actually has some awesome shooting percentages, I'm sure we're curating plays to get him more shots. Have faith, trust the process. Oregon State's site has some info on their team and some of their strengths. Sounds like they are a pretty young team, they've lost some close games so far this season.

Looks like the game went pretty well today. I had a Christmas party (and I don’t have PAC 12 network anyway) so I wasn’t able to watch it, but I was pleasantly surprised looking at the box score. I know OSU isn’t a powerhouse by any means, but keeping the game within single digits was pretty impressive, given some of the recent results. This team has gotten a lot of flack this season (and rightfully so) but I also like to give them props when they deserve it. Now hopefully they enjoy the holiday break in their schedule and come back ready for Horizon League play.

The announcers mentioned the Stanford game several times and seemed surprised (as well perhaps as the OSU team) that we hung in there as well as we did. Long layoff now until next game later this month at Detroit 12/29/22

They played better than they have been. Hitting a few threes makes a difference.
My biggest problem with the game was that it seemed as though their goal was to keep the game close as opposed to winning it.

They clearly didn't want to lose by double digits at the end. Given the season so far I will give that a pass on the last 20 seconds or so. It helps them reinforce the good things they did in this game and maybe gives them some momentum with four road games to restart conference play.
They had several guys diving on the floor for balls. They cut into two different double digit leads. There was some energy that was missing in the previous two road games.
They still had far too many turnovers to win a game at this pace. They also didn't get much help from their guards from behind the arc. They really need one of those guys to bury some shots to win games like this.
Cade was neutralized by fouls but he still fought hard when he was available.
In the end it's still a loss and everyone needs to remember this is about victories and not moral victories. We will know in Detroit if that part of the lesson was learned.

I would say glimmers of hope. They do need 3 point shooters and correct me if I am wrong, if they can't shoot them now why should I expect improvement in this aspect of the game(unless scheming for open shots)? Hopefully the team can pull off some conference wins to show improvement over last year. To me that is the only way to build this program considering where we are at, get the arrow pointing upward, create excitement and bring in more talent.

On Sunday the offense looked better. The ball movement was the best that I have seen from them all year. What does concern me is the 3 bench points. They need the second unite to step up and they need to play with more defensive intensity. I believe that the offense plays off the defense and it looks like they are pressing to much. All I can say is play hard for 40 minutes relax and have fun. Winning is more fun than losing. by the way rebuilding is not going to happen overnight, it is a process. Coach Ryan is in the third year o a six year contract, so lets give him a chance.

As several posters have noted, the three point shooting has been a struggle. Beyond Zae and Brock nobody has a good percentage.
Here are some numbers that you might find interesting.
Clarence was a 32% shooter from deep last year at his JUCO. He is currently 26% for GB but with two more makes he would be at 32% again, so he isn't that far off of what would be expected.
Davin was a 40% shooter from deep last year at his JUCO. At BGSU he was 3/11 one year and 1/4 the other year. He is currently 4/21 for GB and is 0 for his last 9.
Garren was a 38% shooter from deep last year at his JUCO. At Loyola MD he was 4/15 one year and 0/3 the other year. He is currently 5/21 for GB and is 1 for his last 17.
Nate was a 35% shooter from deep last year for GB. At Iowa State he was 0/4 one year and 0/2 the other year. He is currently 3/23 for GB and is 1 for his last 21 (I believe the 1 make was a bank against Loyola).
Jack is 1 for 7 this year. He made 37.5% from deep in high school.
Ryan Wade was 1/7 from deep at CMU last year. At Holy Cross he was 44/151 one year and 21/65 the other year. He is currently 0/9 for GB.
It is hard to know what to expect moving forward. GB has some guys that have shot better at he D1 level than what we have seen so far and some guys that are doing about what you would expect based on their history. GB has a bunch of guys that were truly in the holiday spirit as their shooting percentages took visits to the north pole. In some cases I think the weight of losing has taken a toll on confidence. Perhaps some of these guys are really due. They are getting pretty good looks and the restart of conference play next week is a good time for some of the guys to reengage and start knocking down some shots that they know they are capable of making.
