McCollum is light years a better candidate than Darner was. He is 210-15 in the last seven seasons, including four national titles. Darner can't even get a Power 5 assistant job since he was dumped here.
If we are going to bandy around Steinmetz's name as a candidate then we may as well put Grzesk back on the board (although I do not believe there will be any interest on either side this time around).

I am hoping that Freddie is auditioning for the job and I hope that he can bring more energy to this team. I think that can go along way. Since Freddie is down 2 assistants I would like to see him reach out to Cordero Barkley and Jeff Nordgaard to help out with practices.I think that hey could be a good influence for the players. How about Tom Crean. He has already made his money and just maybe it might appeal to him. If not maybe you could pick his brain for candidates.

You know, I never thought about it until you said it, but why not CB? People around the program basically revere him as a god. He knows the game, he has connections everywhere because he’s active with youth coaching etc. From my understanding he’s wrapped up in other business ventures so I’m not sure he’d even want to give those up. As a former player told me the other day, , they’d be shocked if he didn’t become the mayor of Green Bay, the governor, or president some day.

Sprouts from the Crean tree had some success in GB. Might as well go get the tree.
A lot of people would hate that hire as a retread hire. Who knows if he would be interested but he would win.

While I’d be all for Crean getting the job, I think it’s a little too beneath him. I think he’ll keep his ESPN job until a better opportunity comes along, just don’t think he’ll get enough money and resources to want to come here. It also doesn’t help that his former assistants used to coach here, and he probably wouldn’t want to be compared to them. Fun to dream though.

CB seems like he’d be a better AD or chancellor at the school, rather than a coach. He just has no proven track record that he can coach winning basketball at anything close to this level. This isn’t the time to take a chance on someone like him. Love the guy, but that’s way too big of risk to take right now.

I think Moon has this dialed in more than we think. He gets a look at Freddie the rest of this season and if there is progress, he can extend a 1 year contract for a more in depth look. If there is success, great! If not, then Moon is in a way better financial position next year to be able to land the right person (if not Freddie) at that time. I’m excited to see what Freddie can do.

It’s time to stop going for these same safe hires based on what coaching tree they’re from. Log the whole god damned forest and see what we can find instead.

But I don't think he will be without a dramatic turn around.

Good point on recruiting. I hope Freddie gets a legit shot at position. Given circumstances, very difficult to evaluate him on just the remainder of the season. I expect energy and improvement but I’m not sure a dramatic turn around looking at only wins and losses is likely.

It doesn't seem like any players are fond of him, nor his predecessor. Undoubtedly one of the strangest people I've ever met, but who knows, he could go Charlie Kelly wild-card here and accidentally luck into something.

I am genuinely curious how you think Josh Moon has anything to do with the current mess that we are in? Moon didn't hire Will, you're absolutely correct about that. That was never in question. I'm saying that those that surround him clearly do not have any sort of sound mind, and if it took him this long to see that the bottom was falling out, there could be an issue on his end, too. Is Josh going to have proper instincts in this next hire, or is he going to be deferential since he has only been here for roughly 18 months and his job probably hinges, at least somewhat, on the next hire?
