This was the worst I’ve seen the Buzzcuts look in years, yet we still couldn’t break 50. I’m not sure what was more painful to watch, the rebounding margin or the three-point shooting? Not to mention the negative assist to turnover ratio, again.
At one point in the fourth, Davis had the ball at the top of the arc, and Zae was trying to call a play or just for some more movement from the two guys standing feet away from him, bunched up in the corner, who both just stayed in place and stared at him…seemed like a microcosm of the offense.
The positives:
We finally covered the spread
Enjoy Zae Blake while we have him

This was the worst I’ve seen the Buzzcuts look in years, yet we still couldn’t break 50 Badgers just beat Stanford a few days ago. They lack a premier player, but they still defend, and they continue to play low possession games.

Hey I've got a bowl of cereal for a post game snack if you want to pee in it for me.
The shooting was gross, no doubt. Yet this is a team that just got run over in the second half against two teams that probably aren't as good as the Badgers. They tightened up the rotation, played good defense and never quit. That is progress. That same game in HL play is a win.

We haven't seen Green Bay play defense since Wardle left. This was refreshing.

I know you all really missed my review after the Georgetown game but it wouldn't have been pretty. That being said I am back. I was in attendance tonight at the Kohl Center and that was a different team than what I saw the first two games. For those saying Wisconsin is not very good this year, that may be true but they are much better than Indiana St and Georgetown. Also, when Greg Gard called timeout in the second half up 5, that was the loudest the stadium was all night. Gotta give credit to all of you that made the trip.
The good:
Cade Meyer: By far the best he looked all year. Stayed out of foul trouble and still defended great. Gave Steven Crowl fits down low and on offense he was much improved. Loved to see him be strong in the post and shoot less from outside:
Overall team defense: It is tough to see on TV how good the team defense is, but being there the defense as a whole was great. Not only individual on ball defense but overall team defense. Help side defense was constantly there. There were very few missed rotations. Really fought hard to keep a much bigger team from getting easy buckets.
Zae Blake: I really think he is going to be a star for this team. Has so many ways to score and is very strong for his size when getting into the paint. Also, made Kamari his child and didn't give him an inch on the defensive side.
Overall effort: Was great to see the team play for 40 min. Unlike the last two games, the team came out of the locker room and continued fighting for the whole game. The last two games it looked like when the offense struggled the defensive followed and there were second half collapses. If this team plays a full 40 min like tonight, they will win games in the horizon league.
The bad:
Free throw shooting: This continues to be an issue and really cost them tonight from having a chance to win.
Three point shooting: Last i saw they were 1/13 from 3. That simply is just not going to cut it. We are going to need to make 3s to keep the floor spaced an allow for lanes to the basket and Cade to have space inside. I think all of us on the message board may have been able to combine for a better performance from deep tonight.
Kamari McGee: I don't wish any failure for Kamari in his career but man was it nice to see him be the least effective player on the court tonight. Guy might want to have second thoughts about transferring after tonight. He could be playing 25+ min for us and instead is coming off the bench and being useless at Wisconsin. He couldn't do anything on offense and I gotta admit it was great to see him struggle vs us.

Chucky's terrible shot selection killed the Badger offense.

If they make 7 of the 10 free throws they missed and made a couple more 3's and finished stronger at the rim they could have won this game. Even if they would shoot more mid range jumpers instead of 3's this would still create more spacing. Why shoot 3's if you struggle to hit free throws.I thought that Wisconsin would play McGgee more than 6 minutes tonight. All I can say is the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Lots to build on for Friday.

based on early stats, the over is a better pick. If we do not do ok against the 2 lower level teams that we will play in Jamaica, well it doesn't look good for this year. If we end up at the bottom of our conference, OMG, well I am getting ahead of the season. Early returns are Nix are simply outmatched to the point of not being competitive. Better than expected results last night. Not sure how good WI is but no crashing in second half this time. A positive step.

Amari Jenkins hasn’t played but in one exhibition game. Which you allowed to do before deciding to redshirt. I’m pretty sure he is redshirting. Coach Ryan said in the phear the Phoenix podcast that it was a possibility. There just hasn’t been anything official about it.

They don’t play Brayden Dailey a lot. They only play three true big men. Plus Cummings maybe jedkins isn’t ready to play. But Dailey wasn’t ready to play last year but there was a opportunity for him to play due to the transfers. It just seemed like they had more size last year? Ansong, kirchiman, kellog, clafflin, meyer, majok which is more size?

Its more strength. There are not many skilled 7 footers in the Horizon league. Also, last year there might have been more size but Kirchiman was a revolving door on defense. Tutu was pretty much useless, he didn't know how to play team defense and couldn't shoot outside of 2 ft. Kellog was useless the majority of the time. Clafflin did not have much size at all, he was a perimeter player. The inside this year is much better i think. Meyer should hopefully show improvement which we saw some last night. Heffner is brutal on offense but is really good at defending the rim and Short will continue to improve as he gets used to the physicality of D1 ball. Jenkins i think will benefit from a redshirt year and hopefully can put on some muscle.
