Lets try this again. On Thursday at 7pm at the Kress Center the men return to action against D2 Michigan Tech. The game will be on the radio but there will not be live stats. I am guessing that means we should all be prepared for no box score, no highlights, no post game press conference and no articles on the website or in the newspaper.
Michigan Tech had a very good season last year. Last year they beat Ball State in an exhibition game. Michigan Tech did lose two of their top four scorers from that team. They took a foreign trip to Greece this summer, they should have more practice and chemistry under their belts than a lot of D2 teams at this time of the year.
Michigan Tech has a very local feel to their roster. They have a player from Ashwaubenon, Kaukauna, and DePere. A fun side note, the player from DePere is the son of a GB Phoenix Basketball legend. That is Dawson Nordgaard and even though he didn't play last year he was named the teams outstanding newcomer. He has good size so it will be fun to see what he brings to the table. Hopefully on Thursday night it isn't a boat load of made baseline jumpers!!
As for Green Bay this is the final tune up before the real season begins on Monday. I am guessing we don't see them go 11 deep in the first half and that the Phoenix start to focus in on the regular rotation. After the game against SNC it is fair to say all fans would like to see the team find ways to impose their style on the game. It won't feel like much was learned over the last week if we don't see progress in some areas on the court.

In order for this team to be better than last week they have to play inside out and that starts with Cade Meyer getting more touches in the post.

Curious to see how Nordgaard and Tomashek do, since IMO they were guys that GB should have offered. A shooter and an aircraft carrier would look good on that roster right now. (Posting that now so it doesn't look like a second guess.) Kyle Monroe was a big miss for GB as well in the Wardle/Darner transition.
For a program that needs to rebuild community interest, these are unnecessary self-inflicted mistakes.

The good news from this game is they looked a lot better for much of the game. They were able to get Cade and Brock looks inside and they scored 30+ points. The defense was really good for much of the game, they really made Michigan Tech work, especially in the first half. As the game went on some guys faded for GB on defense and Michigan Tech started scoring with more ease.
I have been more optimistic than most about GB's prospects for this season. I won't sugar coat it though. There was some things on display that rocked my foundation a bit. They had 19 turnovers for the game, many of which were unforced. They only made 52% of their ft's and that was after starting 8 of 8. The troubling part is they had multiple guards step up to the line down the stretch and brick ft's. They were in position to have this be a relatively easy 15+ point win and pretty much folded in the last five minutes. The game is 40 minutes and if they are going to have the turnover and free throw issue haunt them all year there will be a lot of close losses.
I would love to see Zeigler bust out. You can tell he is frustrated with his two games so far. It was nice to see Zae Blake have a meaningful contribution. Garren knocked down a late three, we didn't see much clutch shooting last year.
As for Michigan Tech. Tomashek had a very slow start but he really poured it on in the second half. He is nice looking player and certainly looks like Green and White would have been good colors for him! Gherezgher was really good Michigan Tech as well.
The real season starts on Monday. The team is going to have to decide if they want to make silly turnovers and miss clutch free throws or if they want to win D1 games. There were definite signs of progress and potential but still signs that they will be a pesky out that can't quite seal the deal.

The fact that they only beat a d-3 and d-2 team by single digits is very concerning.
I know it’s preseason and you’re trying different lineups but you should beat the piss out of these teams.
Will better figure it out fast or he will be gone after next year.
I was ready for linc to be gone by the end of his tenure but if this is the alternative just to get more local kids I’m good. Bring linc back then.
I want a consistent team at the top like NKU and Wright St have. There is no reason we can’t get there.

You think about the other candidates jimmy foster or Gary Gresch. During a pandemic who would of kept it better? I listened to the Milwaukee twitter space. And those guys are love Bart Lundy. I was manger for linc darner is a assistant and high point last year at ball state why hasn’t he gone back to being a head coach?

Onto Indiana State
