It sounds like Fan Night is going to be more of a meet and greet. I would like to see the Men's and Woman's teams have a 30 minute scrimmage. I would hope that there will be media coverage, so it would be a good way to advertise the programs and give the fans a look at the team especially with so many new faces and just maybe it might create a little excitement around the programs. It is also a good way for the coaches to see how the players perform in front of an audience. Green Bay has always done a good job of taking events like the and making it special for the fans and doing this would just turn it up a notch.

At least with two exhibition games the fan base will have chances to see game action before the season kicks off.
This event seems designed around having fun and making personal connections with the team, in particular with the student body. If you have a good time and get to know the people on the team perhaps you will come back and become a fan.
Unfortunately there aren't many hardcore men's basketball fans to host a scrimmage for.

Does anyone have any updates to share from the event?

Went to the event last night, it was a fun event for the teams as both men and women teams were there. The PA announcer was there sort of MCing the whole event. It was nice to see the uniforms and juat have a first look at the team overall. Naturally it was nice to see a full bench of players, seems like it's been forever since we've seen that. 3 point contest and dunk contest were fun to watch. Cade and Donavan made it to the finals with Cade winning in controversial fashion. Cade had an awesome windmill dunk go down in one of the earlier rounds, then a between the legs slam in the first final round. Scores were tied so they had to do a dunk off which Cade won but I have to say, Donavan probably had the more impressive dunk in the 2nd final session. Bounce pass off the backboard catch and full extension hammer......but either one could have won it.
For the 3 point contest they had a player from the women's team and the men's team shooting at the same time on opposite sides of the floor and they shot at the same time (5 balls at the 5 points around the perimeter) for each. Brayden Daily, Nasty Nate Jenkins and Randy Tucker shot for the men's team. Brayden ended up in 2nd place but it was the Randy show for sure. I believe at one point he hit 7 in a row but he was smooth and in rhythm over 3 rounds of shooting. Love to see that come November. I also like the road unis, the white collar trim on this year's uniforms sort of pops out for some reason IMO. Both coaches spoke afterwards just thanking everyone for coming and announcing their home exhibition openers but as of last night, nothing mentioned about a green/white scrimmage much to my disappointment. Was very happy they announced that today.
But my #1 take away from last night was just how the guus were joking around and having fun. Smiling, laughing etc. Some natural energy was noticeable considering I didn't miss a minute of the entire season last year including the open practice and exhibition games in person. The team looks older, bigger and more like a group of men compared to last year. We've tripled our experience with the turnover which is a good thing for sure. If anyone is coming to the area for games, a local bar called Black Sheep thst is just down the road from campus offers a buy 1 get 1 drink offer with proof of a game ticket. Not sure that can be beat around town when there are games at the Kress FYI.
Defitnetly feeling the itch of the new season. Need to close the door on that 5 win campaign last year and the gut wrenching 5 to 7 games we had wrapped around our fingers that got away. Can't wait for Saturday at 10am, let's go!

According to a Green Bay athletics email I received yesterday:
"The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team is hosting an open practice for all interested fans on Saturday, October 15 at the Kress Center.
Practice will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting with 60-90 minutes of instructional/skill work followed by a scrimmage.
Kwik Trip Glazer donuts will be provided."
