Green Bay extended a scholarship offer to another big JUCO guard this weekend, this time to 6'4" Texas native Garren Davis who is currently playing at Clarendon College. It looks like Freddie Owens was on the staff when Davis played at Loyola Maryland so there's already a relationship there. According to Verbal Commits other schools to offer include Southern Miss, Louisiana-Monroe, and Manhattan. He's a chucker - more than half of his shots come from behind the arc - averaging about 8 three point attempts per game and hitting them at a decent clip of 38% (48-126). He only attempted 18 threes at Loyola (13 appearances over two seasons) and made 4 of them - 22.2%. So good size and decent shooting would check a couple of boxes, but it's also worth noting that Randy Tucker hit about 40% of his three point attempts at the JUCO level so as we've seen this season just because Davis' JUCO stats are good doesn't mean it'll translate back to D1 ball. Good to see the staff active out on the recruiting trail again though.

Can this guy play any sort of defense? After Tre Gomillon’s 27 he put up last week we need a bigger guard to contain that.
The three point shooting would be nice though….

Welcome to Green Bay Garren. He fills a need and has an opportunity to play lots of minutes. In addition to his size and shooting which GB really needs, he has previously been coached by Freddie Owens in college. That will hopefully help him get up to speed with GB much quicker.
Green Bay's offense did generate plenty of open 3's this past year. Garren takes almost eight 3's per game and hits at 38%. Based on that volume of shots I am confident he will knock shots down for GB. It is one things when you only take one or two per game and hit at 38%. Taking 8 is a pretty good sample size.
He does seem to commit a lot of turnovers so that is one item to clean up to make sure he can stay on the court and keep burying the 3 ball.
If there is any recent video of his game I would love to see it.
