Josh Humphey is on campus and still a Phoenix. That means the entire starting lineup that finished with 8 wins in the last 11 games remains intact.

I realize that Brown is the "focal point" and everything and Gavin is putting together a great campaign for him to be conference POTY, but I personally still believe that Kiefer Sykes' development will decide where GB finishes this year. If he's the same player he was last year, the Phoenix will be good, not great. If he makes the sophomore jump, the Phoenix could be better than Detroit and (as) good as Valpo. I just think Brown is going to be better than most in the HL in the post regardless of whether or not he gets better. Sykes' development is huge for the Phoenix' chances.
And of course depth. Got to have 8, preferably 9 guys to trust at any stage of the game if the Nix want to beat Valpo or Detroit to the championship.

Agree with panther about that. I think Brown will still be the best big in the conference and average close to a dbl-dbl but we need more from the perimeter if there is any chance of winning the HL. If teams are forced to focus on other players than Brown it only makes it easier for him and Cougs down low and that showed the last 10 games last season. I hope Kiefer has improved his outside shooting, because if he has that will be a nightmare for teams to try to guard him.
Big men can only do so much on offense because they dont have the ball in their hands as much, so if Brown can up his fg% to above 50% and continue to grab 10rebs and 3blks a game I think that will help GB more than him scoring 20 a game. Only 2 months until games start! Cant wait!

Green Bay media day was yesterday. Rob Demovsky's coverage includes news of extensions for Coach Wardle: With newly extended contract, Wardle eyes Horizon crown. Here's video from media day: Green Bay Hosts Annuel Media DayGreat news to hear they've extended Wardle. It will take a hefty raise to keep him hear when he makes the big dance, but the extensions and addition of the bonuses at least give them a chance to negotiate when it happens. With revenue about to rise with increased attendance, things are looking great for Green Bay basketball. Disappointing to find out the NCAA denied Stefan's waiver request. Another example of the NCAA doing wrong. They claim they want to protect players from concussions, but they don't support the player during the recovery. Lame.

I could have been reading it out of context but I don't get the impression that RD's article was all that favorable regarding the extension. To me it came across with a tone that Wardle has been extended without actually doing anything yet.
Also, very disappointed that Cole has to sit. So many other guys transfer and play right away with waivers. He will have been out of college hoops for 1.5 years once he gets going. Certainly he is a player that could make a nice impact but isn't getting a lot of publicity.
Good to know Daniel Turner will be back shortly. Not the best player on the team but I like the way he plays.

With Stefan out, Sultan Muhammad gets a big opportunity to establish himself in the rotation. He can shoot it, though likely not as well as Stefan. However, he will likely be a much better defender, Hopefully he proves he can do more than just shoot to help the team.

Rob Demovsky tweeting a bunch of Phoenix news a few days ago. In case you missed it, he stated:
-Practice looked more like a January practice than an October practice as the team is way ahead of where it was this the last 2 years. -Josh Humphrey was sitting out with a knee injury. The injury is not thought to be serious. -Sykes is an improved shooter -Cougill's weight is 270-ish (that's down from last season) -Carrington Love will play significant minutes, possibly even with Sykes -Cole Stefan's 1st game will be on 1/3 versus WSU. He is NCAA eligible 12/19, but will serve a 3 game suspension for team rules violation.
All interesting stuff from Rob, be sure to follow him on twitter if you don't already. I tried to pry to find out Stefan's violation, but Rob couldn't share. Rob did share that Stefan will be on scholarship this year. It's disappointing that Stefan got off-track, but I do appreciate the accountability from the coaching staff.

Come on Jay you gotta know what the team violation was!
It probably was something boring like he missed practice or shot up a daycare.

I just assumed that if Kaylon Williams crime spree last year was worth a 1 game suspension, then Stefan must have committed genocide on a small nation to get a 3 game benching.

Read this to find out where Alec Brown ranked in CBSSports Top 30 under-the-radar players. Too low? Just right? A few familar players on the list, including #3 Colt Ryan, a player GB recruited but was unable to land. The Nix will get an up close look at #1 on the list in Nevada.
