Great to hear Cougill is getting his work done. He was dominant at times, but was exhausted for some games on the 2 game roadtrips. Getting lighter, more agile will allow us to better match-up defensively versus small, quick teams like YSU.
We'd all like Brown to be farther along in his weight goal, but the positive side is his lack of weight will keep him from turning pro early.
We finally find out that the team has applied for a waiver for Stefan. Having to wait for the answer puts the team in kind of a tough situation. I predict he gets the waiver, because he couldn't be expected to return to La Salle when their lack of treatment for his concussion issues was gross negligence.

Should we be excited about what Rob wrote? I say yes. In early workouts 3 years ago, Rob identified Ryan Pearson as an immediate contributor. Pearson later suffered a knee injury the held him out early, but he finished that year extremely strong and is now an outstanding player. Last year Rob pegged Sykes as immediate help. He went on to be the top freshman in the conference.
If Rob is right again, we'll have a lot of fun following the Phoenix this year. Fouse could give us a 3rd straight freshman on the All-Newcomer team. Love is a player that is easy to pull for because he is tremendously dedicated.

Yes, I know that Bleacher Report is pretty horrible, but here is some publicity anyway. Ten Mid-Major Marvels. They have Alec Brown as #7

Walk-on Jared Dimakos said on Twitter today that he wont be coming back to UWGB and that he will be attending and playing basketball at Triton College in Chicago. Best of luck to you, Jared!

Buried in the linked article is a comment that Josh Humphrey has left the program. I had not seen this anywhere else and I am not convinced the source is correct. blogs.suntimes.com/hoopsreport/

My sources (ie the GB online student directory ) indicate that Dimakos is in fact gone but Humphrey is still enrolled. Could be confusing Humphrey with his older brother who was leaving Boston College or maybe confused him with Aaron Armstead.

Best of luck to Jared Dimakos. I thought he was more gifted than the typical walk-on. I will be interested in how he does at Triton CC. He stated he reason for leaving was that the financial part was becoming too burdensome. I can respect that reason when a JC is willing to pay his way.

Dimakos could resurface as a schollie player in D-I or D-II after the year.
I didn't realize Aaron Armstead had left the Nix. That's a blow to the depth that was already my #1 concern for GB.
The whole student directory thing should not be counted on - if it's anything like UWM, it will keep students in the system as long as their e-mail account is active. It had me listed as a student for a full 18 months after I graduated from UWM in fall 2010 because my e-mail address was still active.
However, I think Humphrey is still around - look to the roster, which Gavin's already updated. Humphrey is still there.

I didn't realize Aaron Armstead had left the Nix. That's a blow to the depth that was already my #1 concern for GB. Aaron is a loss in that we thought he had some serious upside, but it won't be hard to improve upon his level of production from last year. We add the little talked about Sultan Muhammad, who was a JuCo DII 3rd team All-American, just like Cougill was the year before. He won't need Cougill-like production to improve upon Armstead's abysmal shooting % and poor defense. Also, at some point we unviel Cole Stefan. We don't know when that will be, but it could be as soon as game #1. I see a lot of talk about how transfer Josh Crittle is some kind of huge addition for UIC. Stefan was just as productive as a freshman in the A-10 for La Salle as Crittle was as a 4th year junior in Conference USA for UCF. Cougill is twice the player Crittle is. With the move down to the HL along with the natural ascension a player makes from 1st to 2nd year, Stefan could be the conference's premier bench scorer. Aaron Armstead did indeed transfer closer to his family as we earlier speculated. He will be playing for a JuCo in San Jose, California this year, I'll share the name of the school when I remember it.

Here is a video of the dunk contest featuring Phoenix newcomers versus defending champ Greg Mays.Terrific choice of Mays to follow up last years winning dunk over 5'10" Keifer Sykes with the same dunk, but this time over 6"7" Jordan Fouse. Awesomely incredible. Alphonso McKinnie puts on a serious show too, but nothing competes with the dunk Mays finished with. Also a big thanks to wyideopen sports for the great video work.

Josh Humphrey is still in school. I happen to live next door to a couple of the guys on the team (Brennan, Josh, Keifer, and Greg). They only put up the first names on the door and haven't seen the guys yet, but I'd have to assume its Humphrey and not some other Josh.
