On the bright side of things GB went from 16 TO's on Friday to 8 on Saturday. They got a chance to see the defense and they did make the necessary adjustments. Also, Ansong got in the game early and had the awareness to take away the lob play twice, UDM never really tried it again after that. They defensive FG% was improved and the rebounding went from -11 on Friday to -4 on Saturday. Also, they had a fast break with Lucas out front and gave it to him. Of course he dropped it back to Cem for an easy layup like I knew he would. Sharing is caring. In general terms they played a much more competitive game.
On the negative side they didn't improve much on Antoine Davis. If you let up for a second he will get looks. Now he takes shots that are hard to make so sometimes you can't do anything about it. However, there were moments in the game that the defense would take an ever so slight pause and it was enough to get AD a look. Also, despite trying several guys on Kuol they had no answer for him. He was able to bully GB around and do a lot of damage at the free throw line.
While the rebounding was improved as a team I have to note that four forwards combined for 10 rebounds in 80 minutes played. That isn't good enough at all. GB could not dig out very many contested rebounds this weekend. I don't know what the answer is short term but it is going to be really hard to win games with guys who are some combination of undersized, nailed to the ground and aren't dying to get every rebound.
Of note in this game Paris Taylor, Moore and Kellogg all received a DNP according to the ESPN box score. In the other game thread about UDM I referenced playing Moore and Kellogg and they immediately get no run. Somewhere in there is a joke about Coach actually reading this board and I should reverse psychology him by player name dropping guys I don't enjoy playing as much so he plays the guys I do like more
